Chandigarh, October 31, 2025:The month-long observance of Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDDs) Prevention Day concluded today with the message to “introspect, sensitize, and take individual responsibility towards eliminating Iodine Deficiency Disorders.”

Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health Services-cum-MD NHM, UT Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest for the event. Dr. Ranjana Mehta, Programme Officer (NIDDCP), highlighted the various activities undertaken by the IDD Cell, UT Chandigarh, and shared the key achievements of the programme.

Addressing Programme Officers, Medical Officers, Health Teachers, Peer Educators, and students from government schools, Dr. Suman Singh emphasized the importance of using adequately iodized salt and the need for community awareness to prevent IDDs.

Throughout the month, multiple activities were organized, including health talks in Gynaecology and Paediatrics OPDs of GMSH-16, urine iodine testing among pregnant women, and salt testing demonstrations at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. Awareness lectures and competitions were also held across various government schools of Chandigarh, along with testing of salt and urine samples at the State IDD Laboratory.

The event featured a soulful Saraswati Vandana by students of GMSSS-33 and an awareness skit by students of GMSSS-23, highlighting the impact of iodine deficiency. Prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners and participants.

The Health Department, UT Chandigarh, reaffirmed its commitment to ensure the use of adequately iodized salt and to continue public education efforts towards the elimination of Iodine Deficiency Disorders.
