Chandigarh, 01.11.25-A grand and vibrant celebration marking the Statehood Day of 8 States—Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu—and 7 Union Territories—Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Delhi, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry—was organized at the Guru Nanak Dev Auditorium, Punjab Raj Bhavan, Chandigarh, under the theme “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.”
The event was graced by Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, who presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
The event showcased the unity and diversity of India through colourful performances representing the distinct cultural identities of various States and Union Territories. Traditional dances, folk songs, and regional music from across the country were presented by the participants, reflecting the essence of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”—the spirit of togetherness in diversity.
In his inspiring address, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria extended his warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India for launching the visionary initiative “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.” He said that this programme has enabled citizens across the nation to understand, appreciate, and celebrate the culture, heritage, and traditions of every part of India.
He remarked that “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” has become a strong medium to connect hearts and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among the people of India. It allows citizens from all walks of life to learn about each other’s customs, values, and achievements, thereby reinforcing the vision of ‘One Nation, One Spirit, One Future’.
Sh. Kataria said, “Our country’s identity lies in its ‘unity in diversity’. India’s strength comes from its people—diverse in culture, language, and tradition, yet bound by the common thread of patriotism and humanity. Each state and Union Territory contributes in its own unique way towards nation-building.”
Remembering the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his 150th birth anniversary, Sh. Kataria paid glowing tributes, saying that it was Sardar Patel’s far-sighted leadership and determination that united 562 princely states into a single nation after Independence. He stated, “The foundation of India’s unity and integrity was laid by Sardar Patel. His vision continues to inspire us to work together for an ‘Akhanda Bharat’.”
The Governor also made special mention of Operation Sindoor, describing it as a remarkable example of India’s unity, courage, and discipline. He praised the valor and patriotism shown by the people and security forces of the border states, saying that their dedication has made the entire nation proud.
Highlighting Chandigarh’s youth participation in Civil Defence Volunteer programmes, he said, “The enthusiastic involvement of young people in national service shows that our youth are not only aware of their rights but are equally committed to their duties towards the nation.”
During his address, Sh. Kataria also spoke about the distinctive cultural, social, and developmental contributions of each of the participating States and Union Territories—ranging from Jammu & Kashmir’s spiritual heritage and Kerala’s literacy achievements to Punjab’s valor, Haryana’s sporting excellence, Karnataka’s educational innovation, and Tamil Nadu’s scientific legacy.
He emphasized that such events give citizens an opportunity to learn about and celebrate the richness of India’s culture. “It is through such platforms that every Indian gets a glimpse of the country’s unity, diversity, and composite culture. This initiative ensures that every region learns from and grows with the other,” he said.
Calling upon the people to continue the spirit of brotherhood and collective progress, the Governor appealed to everyone to contribute towards building a strong, progressive, and drug-free Punjab, which will further strengthen the nation’s moral and social fabric.
He concluded his speech with the message, “Let us take pride in our diversity, preserve it with love and respect, and make it the foundation of a stronger and more united India. May our unity continue to guide us toward a brighter and developed nation.”
On the occasion, the Governor also planted a Sita Ashok sapling in the premises of Punjab Raj Bhavan as a symbol of peace, prosperity, and environmental harmony.
The event concluded with a spectacular cultural presentation showcasing folk dances and musical performances representing the participating States and Union Territories, leaving the audience with a renewed sense of pride and patriotism.
