Chandigarh, 17 October: The Anti-Discrimination Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with NSS Units and Geetanjali Counselling,
organised an awareness session on ‘Gender Inclusivity’.
The session, held under the aegis of the Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), aimed to dismantle stigma, raise awareness, and foster understanding and acceptance of diverse gender identities within the society. The resource person for the session was Sh. Amit, Counsellor, Transgender Protection Cell, Department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration. Through an insightful presentation, he highlighted the lived realities of the transgender community in India, including the challenges of discrimination, limited access to education and healthcare, and social exclusion. He also discussed the legal progress made following the NALSA Judgment (2014) and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019. The session was highly interactive, with students engaging enthusiastically in dialogue and reflection.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma commended the initiative, stating that the event marked a significant step in the college’s ongoing efforts to promote equity and inclusion. She reaffirmed MCM’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for all members of the campus community.
