Chandigarh, 6 October: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women’s Department of Philosophy, in collaboration with the Department of English and under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised an intellectually stimulating interactive session titled ‘The Essence of Knowing: Questioning Knowledge Itself’.
The resource person for the session was Prof. Priyedarshi Jetli (Retd.), Visiting Faculty, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Tuljapur Campus. Prof. Jetli offered deep insights into the interplay between literature and philosophy, highlighting how philosophical inquiry transcends surface understanding to explore the very foundations of knowledge. Drawing from thinkers like Aristotle and others, he emphasised that while every discipline possesses its own body of knowledge, philosophy uniquely concerns itself with knowledge as such. He further discussed Russell’s paradox and the pervasive nature of philosophical thought, underlining that a philosopher must cultivate a critically reflective mind. The event fostered an enriching exchange of ideas, encouraging participants to view knowledge not as a static entity but as a dynamic, evolving pursuit.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma commended the session for opening new vistas of understanding and inspiring students to question, reflect, and engage in meaningful intellectual exploration. She remarked that “Philosophy, often regarded as the queen of all knowledge, nurtures the spirit of inquiry that lies at the heart of all learning.”
