Mahendergarh,24.10.25-Vice Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar Flags Off the Field Study Team In a proactive academic and social outreach initiative, the Department of Geography at the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, has launched a field survey to assess the impact of the recent heavy rainfall and floods in Sawai Madhopur, Udaipur, and Sirohi districts of Rajasthan. The survey aims to study the social, economic, and environmental effects of these natural disasters on local communities, agriculture, livelihoods, and ecosystems.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar flagged off the study team and commended the department’s initiative, emphasizing that such field studies bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications. “Through geographical surveys and participatory research, education can serve its true purpose in public welfare. This study will help students gain experiential knowledge while contributing to society,” he remarked. Prof. Sunita Srivastava, Head of the Department of Physics and Astrophysics, was also present On this occasion.
Head of the Department, Prof. M. L. Meena, said that CUH is committed not only to classroom teaching but also to developing a deeper understanding of how education can be applied to real-life situations. “Our aim is to prepare students to use their academic learning for community benefit and sustainable development,” he added.
The survey team, led by Dr. C. M. Meena and Dr. Kheraj, includes two research scholars — Pradeep Kumar and Sushila — and 44 postgraduate students. The group will collect extensive data through interviews with local residents, photographic documentation, and on-site observations. Additionally, the team will employ satellite-based GPS tools to record precise spatial data for geospatial analysis, ensuring accurate mapping of flood-affected areas.
The outcomes of this field study are expected to contribute significantly to disaster management strategies, rehabilitation planning, and the development of sustainable policies. Moreover, it will enrich academic research in geographical and environmental studies at CUH.
