Chandigarh, October 27, 2025 – The newly constructed four-storey block of Government Model High School, Karsan (Ramdarbar Colony), Phase-I, Chandigarh was inaugurated today by Shri H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh Administration.

To enhance the school’s infrastructure and accommodate a larger number of students, the previous single-storey structure was demolished and replaced with a new four-storey building. The new facility, with a total covered area of 39,696 sq. ft. and parking space of approximately 16,000 sq. ft., has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 9.54 crore. This modernized infrastructure will benefit nearly 600 students from the surrounding areas.

The newly inaugurated block houses 13 classrooms, along with a meeting room, staff room, medical room, sports room, principal’s office, administrative office, NCC room, chemistry lab, physics lab, biology lab, general science lab, music room, library, seminar halls, teachers’ rooms, stores, and separate toilets for boys, girls, and staff, including barrier-free facilities. The building is also equipped with a ramp and staircases to ensure accessibility and safety.

On the occasion, the Chief Secretary planted a tree sapling in the school premises and felicitated meritorious students as well as children with special needs, appreciating their dedication and achievements. He also lauded the efforts of the Engineering Department, Urban Planning Department, and School Education Department for their efficient execution and timely completion of the project.

Interacting with the students, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of time management, discipline, and holistic growth through academics, sports, and co-curricular activities. He advised students to stay focused, set clear goals, and avoid distractions, highlighting that success stems from consistent effort and self-discipline.

The Chief Secretary further underscored the need to curb unproductive habits such as excessive social media use or watching reels, reminding students that “time once lost cannot be regained.” He especially encouraged Class 10 students to utilize this crucial phase effectively in shaping their careers and future.

Highlighting the school’s achievements, the Principal shared that Government Model High School, Karsan has achieved significant progress in both academic and infrastructural domains in recent years. The school recorded a 99% board result in 2025, received the Best School Award (2023) and the Solar School Award (2021), and earned state-level recognition from the Hon’ble Administrator for its outstanding performance. With support from NGOs, the school also provides free uniforms, books, and learning materials, reflecting its commitment to inclusive and holistic education.

Present on the occasion were Ms. Prerna Puri, IAS, Education Secretary; Shri C.B. Ojha, Chief Engineer; Shri Rajiv Kumar Mehta, Chief Architect; Shri Rajeev Tiwari, Director, Department of Public Relations; Ms. Bindu Puri, Deputy Director School Education; Shri Rajan Jain, District Education Officer, and other officials from the Education Department, along with principals of various schools, teachers, parents, and students.
