CHANDIGARH, 07.10.25-Former Municipal Councillor Shakti Prakash Devshali has welcomed the Government of India’s decision—taken in consideration of the convenience of senior citizens and based on his suggestions—to include iris scan and facial recognition (Face Authentication) options in Aadhaar authentication in addition to fingerprints.
Devshali had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 21st August, on the occasion of World Senior Citizens Day, pointing out that due to the natural ageing of the skin, the quality of fingerprints among elderly individuals gradually deteriorates. Consequently, when they attempt to avail government welfare schemes, their biometric verification often fails, preventing them from receiving the benefits. In response, on 30th September, the Prime Minister’s Office informed that the authentication process has now been made easier by including iris scan and facial recognition as additional modalities.
Devshali stated that this decision provides significant relief to elderly citizens whose fingerprints often fade due to age or physical conditions, making it difficult for them to access government services and benefits. Now, with the new options of iris and face authentication, they will be able to receive services smoothly and without obstacles.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this sensitive and visionary decision, Devshali said that it truly embodies the pledge of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas” (Together with all, Development for all, Trust of all, and Effort by all). This reform further strengthens the vision of Digital India, under which technology is being made accessible, secure, and simple for every citizen.
He added that the government’s move demonstrates its firm resolve to ensure that every senior citizen and elder beneficiary receives the advantages of public welfare schemes without any hindrance.
Devshali expressed confidence that the inclusion of iris scan and face authentication options will usher in a new era of transparency, convenience, and reliability in Aadhaar-based services, enabling senior citizens to access their rightful entitlements effortlessly.
