CHANDIGARH, 23.08.25-The Department of Orthopaedics at PGIMER has taken a landmark step by introducing the first PGI Basic Orthopaedic Trauma Course, a precursor to a series of advanced and master-level programmes planned for the coming years.

PGIMER, recognised as an institute of national importance and a global hub of academic excellence, patient care, and research, continues to expand its legacy of nurturing the next generation of surgeons. Earlier this year, the department successfully organised the second PGI Basic Arthroplasty Course. Now, attention turns to trauma—an area considered the backbone of orthopaedic practice in India.

The two-day course promises to deliver more than just technical know-how. Designed under the mentorship of Prof Vijay G Goni and executed with the energy of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, it aims to strengthen the fundamentals of trauma care while fostering collaboration and camaraderie among orthopaedic residents across the country.

“Our vision is clear—quality training should be accessible and affordable,” the organisers said. “Every young surgeon deserves the opportunity to learn from the best minds in the field, without financial barriers.”

With a robust academic calendar in the pipeline—covering Trauma, Arthroplasty, Spine and other subspecialties—the department seeks to establish new benchmarks in orthopaedic education. The Basic Trauma Course will focus on interactive teaching, clearing doubts, refining techniques, and building professional networks that extend far beyond the classroom.

For PGIMER Orthopaedics, this is not just another academic event. It is the beginning of a legacy—raising the standards of trauma care in India, one surgeon at a time.
