Chandigarh, February 16:- A group of IAS Officer (Trainees) visited the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh as part of their field exposure and administrative training programme. The visit aimed at providing first-hand insight into urban governance, solid waste management systems and smart city initiatives being implemented in the city.
The trainees commenced their visit at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Sector 17, Chandigarh, where they were apprised of the city’s smart monitoring systems, real-time surveillance, traffic management, grievance redressal mechanism and inter-departmental coordination through advanced digital platforms.
Thereafter, the officers visited the Wet Waste Processing Plant and Dry Waste Processing Plant to understand scientific methods of waste segregation, composting and recycling. The delegation also inspected the Bioremediation site, where legacy waste is being scientifically treated for environmental restoration.
The trainees further visited the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Centre to observe segregation and recovery of recyclable materials. At the Construction & Demolition (C&D) Waste Plant, they were briefed on recycling of debris into reusable construction materials. The Horticulture Waste Processing Plant was also inspected, showcasing sustainable disposal and composting of green waste.
Earlier, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS has given brief presentation of the best practices of the Municipal Corporatiand interacted with the trainees and highlighted Chandigarh’s commitment towards sustainable urban development and effective solid waste management practices.
The IAS Officer Trainees appreciated the systematic functioning and innovative initiatives undertaken by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.
