Chandigarh, 28th August, 2025: Chandigarh Traffic Police under the guidance of Sh. Sagar Preet Hooda, IPS, Director General of Police, Sh. Sumer Pratap Singh, SSP/Security & Traffic with the supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DSP/Road Safety & Development, continuously making the public aware about road safety and traffic rules.
In continued efforts to promote road safety and awareness among citizens, the Chandigarh Traffic Police organized Road Safety Awareness Sessions to aware the school students, CTU bus drivers and the general public at traffic junctions, markets areas & CTP, Sector-23, Chandigarh.
The sessions were conducted at Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Sec 22-A and Government High School, Sector-50B, Chandigarh on 26th & 27th August 2025, engaging 80 students and teachers who have been enrolled as members of the Road Safety Club of Chandigarh Traffic Police. They were given a practical demonstration on the importance of road safety, highlighting safe practices for road users at the Light Point, Kiran Cinema, Sector-22 and Light Point Sector-50/51, Chandigarh. The aim was to instill commitment towards society in the youth by inculcating respect for law, safe road behavior, discipline, and civic sense to prevent accidents and fatalities.
Further, awareness sessions for CTU bus drivers were held at Children Traffic Park, Sector-23, Chandigarh in two batches on 26th & 27th August 2025. More than 100 CTU bus drivers were sensitized about important traffic rules and regulations.
Additionally, Chandigarh Traffic Police carried out special awareness drives in the City to aware the general public regarding reserved parking facilities for differently-abled persons, stressing the need for public cooperation to ensure these reserved spaces are not misused.
Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector, In-charge of the Children Traffic Park, along with her dedicated team consisting SI Roshani, HC Rahul, HC Ishwar, HC Jagroop Singh, Sr. L/C Pinki, Ct. Parshant, educated all the participants on essential traffic rules and regulations, with a focus on wearing proper safety head gear (helmet) of BIS standards I.S.I Mark, use of indicators, maintaining lane discipline, engine switch-off at red lights to reduce the pollution, specification for inbuilt tint glass & sunshades in the vehicles, reduce air pollution, over speed and following road signage and traffic signals. Emphasis was also placed on the significance of giving way to Emergency Vehicles i.e. Ambulance, Fire-Brigade & Police Vehicles and also to assist injured persons in reaching hospitals. They were also sensitized to park their motor vehicle at proper parking places instead of parking on roads, footpaths, Cycle tracks & turns. They were also sensitized to the dangers of mobile phone use, unnecessary honking, and driving under the influence of alcohol while driving.
Key provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, its amendments since 1st September 2019, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, and Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations, 2017 were also explained. A Road Safety Pledge was administered to all participants to encourage strict adherence to traffic rules.
These interactive learning initiatives reflects the Chandigarh Traffic Police’s commitment to fostering community awareness, promoting sustainable and safe road practices, and encouraging responsible behavior from an early age.
