CHANDIGARH, 27.08.25-In a major relief and achievement for Chandigarh, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has approved a special grant of ₹125 crore for the Municipal Corporation. This amount has been sanctioned under Grant No. 53 – Chandigarh, as per the order issued on 27th August 2025. The grant will provide a much-needed boost to basic civic services and development works, which had been stalled for a long time due to financial constraints.
With this funding, the Municipal Corporation will be able to ensure uninterrupted services like sanitation, water supply, waste management, and street lighting. Moreover, pending projects such as carpeting and maintenance of important V4, V5, and V6 roads will be resumed. Development projects that had slowed down due to lack of funds will now regain momentum.
Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla welcomed this decision, calling it a big relief for the residents of Chandigarh. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Punjab Governor & UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, BJP Chandigarh State President Jatinder Malhotra, as well as the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Finance Secretary, Municipal Commissioner, and all officers of the Chandigarh Administration for their support.
This approval stands as clear evidence that coordinated efforts between the Union Government and the BJP-led Municipal Corporation are delivering concrete results for Chandigarh. It also reflects the strong commitment of the Central Government towards the city’s development and the welfare of its residents.
