MAHENDERGARH, 19.05.25-The Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh in collaboration with Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia (Canada), successfully organised a four- day international workshop on "Issues in Public Finance and Public Choice" from May 13 to 16, 2025. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Stéphane Mechoulan, a renowned political economist and public policy expert from Dalhousie University. The event was conceptualized, directed, and coordinated by Prof. Chanchal Kumar Sharma of the Department of Political Science, CUH.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Hon' ble Vice- Chancellor of CUH, who in his opening address highlighted the importance of such academic forums in fostering critical thinking and deepening the understanding of complex public policy and governance issues. Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar said that as India confronts complex developmental and governance challenges, such initiatives contribute significantly to nurturing the next generation of public policy thinkers, researchers, and decision- makers.

Prof. Sunita Srivastava from the Department of Physics congratulated Prof. Chanchal Sharma for organizing the workshop and emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary engagement in addressing real- world problems. Ms. Renu from the Department of Economics actively participated in all four sessions, contributing to enriching discussions with both the speaker and students.

Over the course of the workshop, Prof. Mechoulan delivered a series of insightful lectures covering key topics such as welfare economics, public policy analysis, cost- benefit evaluation, public choice theory, and fiscal federalism. His sessions emphasized the importance of evidence- based policymaking and the role of rigorous impact assessment in strengthening governance outcomes.

The workshop was designed to be highly interactive and interdisciplinary, bringing together students and faculty from diverse academic backgrounds. It served as a valuable platform to expose participants to global perspectives and analytical tools essential for navigating the challenges of contemporary public finance and governance.
