CHANDIGARH,19-05-2025-The Department of Otolaryngology and Head-Neck Surgery, PGIMER, Chandigarh, under the leadership of Prof. Jaimanti Bakshi (Head of Department) and Prof. Satyawati Mohindra (Unit2 Head), successfully hosted its 1st Sialendoscopy Workshop at Knowledge Hub 2, Nehru Hospital Extension, PGIMER.Chandigarh

This two-day workshop trained ENT surgeons and residents in the latest techniques of Sialendoscopy.

Sialendoscopy is a modern, minimally invasive medical procedure that helps treat problems in the salivary glands — the glands that produce saliva in our mouth. People often suffer from swelling, pain, or dryness in the mouth due to blockages caused by small stones, infections, or narrowed ducts in these glands.

In Sialendoscopy, doctors use a very thin, tube-like camera (about the size of a thin wire) to look directly inside the tiny channels of the salivary glands. This allows them to find and treat the problem without the need for any cuts or major surgery. Most patients go home the same day, and recovery is quick with little or no visible scarring.

This procedure is safe, effective, and offers relief to many who suffer from repeated salivary gland infections or swelling. With Sialendoscopy, we now have a gentle, high-tech way to solve a painful problem — bringing lasting comfort and better oral health to patients.

The scientific program featured: surgical demonstration of Sialendoscopic techniques, Hands-on training sessions for residents, conducted in small groups for focused guidance and Expert lectures covering the anatomy, radiology, instrumentation, and emerging applications of Sialendoscopy, including the use of lasers and management of autoimmune salivary gland disorders

Key faculty members who contributed to the workshop included Prof Styawati Mohindra, Prof Jaimanti Bakshi, Prof Ramandeep Virk, Prof. Sandeep Bansal. Very senior and expert surgeons in the field, Prof. Milind Navlakhe and Prof. Varun Rai travelled from Mumbai and Delhi respectively.

The workshop offered participants a unique opportunity to interact with pioneers in the field and gain practical skills in a rapidly evolving subspecialty of otolaryngology. The sessions also highlighted the growing relevance of Sialendoscopy in reducing the need for open surgeries and enhancing patient recovery.

The workshop reflected PGIMER’s continued commitment to academic excellence, surgical innovation, and the advancement of patient care.
