PU Senate Meeting

Panjab University (PU) Senate today deliberated on few agenda items which are as follows:

PU Senate approved the recommendations dated 14.10.2022 of the Board of Finance.

PU Senate also approved the recommendation of the Legal Committee dated 28.6.2022 that the show cause notice dated 5.5.2022 and letter of Dr. Poonam Sood dated 10.5.22.

PU Senate allowed the designation of Additional Chief Medical Officer w.e.f. 1.2.2021 to Dr. Kamiksha Narda Sharma, Senior Medical Officer, PUSSGRC, Hoshiarpur.

PU Senate has allowed the adoption of UGC notification D.O. No. 4-1/2022 (IC) dated 5.5.22 regarding UGC Regulations, 2022 (Academic collaboration between Indian and Foreign Higher Educational Institutions) to/offer Twinning, Joint Degree and Dual Degree Programmes.

Vice-Chancellor Statement

With a deep sense of sorrow, I may inform the honorable members of this august house about the sad demise of the following after this august house met on July 5 this year:

  • Professor Rakesh Datta, Department of Defence & National Security Studies on August 22, 2022.
  • Professor M.M. Puri ji, former Vice-Chancellor on October 10, 2022.
  • Smt. Kaushalya Devi respected mother of Professor Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri ji, Fellow on October 12, 2022.
  • Mrs. Sareshtha Gupta respected mother of Dr. Rajesh Mahajan, Fellow on December 16, 2022.

  • The 5-year tenure of the august office of the Hon’ble Vice President of India, who happens to be the Chancellor of our University, had ended on August 10, 2022 and the great contribution of Sh. M.V.Naidu ji, the outgoing Vice President of India is placed on record and is highly appreciated. We wish him an excellent health in the coming days. I also take this opportunity of welcoming Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar ji, who has assumed the august office of the Hon’ble Vice President of India & Chancellor of our historic University and Chairman of the Senate on August 11, 2022. We salute the prodigious talent of Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar ji and look forward to be blessed from his illustrious knowledge and a very rich experience for the global march of Panjab University.
  • I am pleased to share that our University is proud of featuring of names of 27 faculty members in the list of top 2% scientists. The analysis was conducted by a team of scientists at Stanford University, USA, assessing scientists for citation impact during the calendar year 2019 and the database was published in a journal on October 16.
  • Prof. Indu Pal Kaur, Chairperson, UIPS was awarded with the prestigious National Intellectual Property Award for year 2021 & 2022 for being the top Indian individual for patents filing, grant and commercialization. The award was presented by Sh. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry for her magnanimous achievement.
  • With pro-active cooperation of all stakeholders, the 3rd Global Alumni Meet of our vibrant university has been successfully held on November 4-5, 2022. Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar ji, Hon’ble Vice President of India and Chancellor of our university inaugurated the same.
  • I am pleased to share that Dr. Neelima Dhingra, of UIPS of our University has got Sarvshreshth Divyangjan Award, 2022 from the Hon’ble President of India.
  • Panjab University secured 1st position (Overall Winner) in Punjab State Inter-Varsity Youth festival 2022 held at Punjabi University Patiala from 10th to 12th December 2022. The overall trophy to Panjab University was presented by S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister Punjab. The university participated in this youth festival on behalf of all affiliated colleges and PU campus under the aegis of Department of Youth Welfare.
  • Experimental High Energy Physics group at Panjab University’s Physics department has been sanctioned Rs.6.13 Crore project under DAE-DST (Govt. of India) Mega-Science initiative under SERB. Supervision for the next five years will be executed under Project Principal Investigator Prof. Vipin Bhatnagar and Dr. Sushil Chauhan, Co-PI.
