CHANDIGARH; 3rd October 2026:Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday announced 10,000 new recruitments in the Punjab Police to root out drugs, as he declared that the state is fighting the final and decisive ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’. During a first-of-its-kind ‘SHO Milni’ and honouring police officers for outstanding work during the campaign, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said police have full freedom to take every legitimate action against drugs and directed them to go to villages and towns, take people along and crack down on the menace. He said ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ has now become a mass awareness movement across Punjab, while the police force will soon get 450 ASIs and 3,400 police personnel.
Sharing a few snippets from this occasion, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated on X: “Today, held an important meeting with Punjab Police officers, from the DGP to the SHO, at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy, Phillaur. Under the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’, we have given the police complete freedom to take strict action against drug smugglers. Along with providing the force with state-of-the-art facilities, we are also going to undertake 10,000 new recruitments without any recommendation or favour. Let us resolve that we will neither stop nor bow until the menace of drugs is uprooted completely. We will not let a single mother or sister shed tears and will build a drug-free ‘Rangla Punjab’. Inquilab Zindabad.”
Addressing the police personnel, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “This is a historic initiative through which I, along with the Director General of Police, am directly engaging with SHOs to understand your working conditions, listen to your concerns and formulate measures for your welfare.”
Congratulating police personnel who have performed their duties with commitment and integrity, the Chief Minister said, “SHOs carry an enormous responsibility because you are the face of policing at the grassroots level. The people come to you with their problems and expect justice, security and immediate action.”
He said, “Our government understands the pressures and challenges faced by our police personnel and is adopting a humane approach towards your genuine concerns. But alongside support, the people of Punjab expect professionalism, honesty and accountability from every police officer.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said public cooperation is indispensable in the fight against drugs, adding, “The people are providing information and cooperating with the police. But once information reaches you, taking prompt and effective action is your responsibility.”
The Chief Minister exhorted the SHOs, “Every complaint and every piece of actionable information must be dealt with seriously, professionally and without fear or favour. There should be no compromise when it comes to protecting the people of Punjab from drugs and crime.”
He said the state government is strengthening the operational capacity of the Punjab Police, stating, “We are providing CCTVs, anti-drone systems, modern vehicles and other advanced infrastructure and technology to strengthen the police force. Modern policing is essential because the networks involved in drug trafficking and organised crime are becoming increasingly sophisticated.”
Talking about technology-driven policing, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann pointed out, “Punjab is moving towards technology-driven policing, including the use of AI-enabled surveillance systems. Even before becoming Chief Minister, when I was serving as an MP, I had taken the initiative for installation of CCTVs at crucial locations in and around Dhuri, Sunam, Malerkotla, Bhadaur, Mehal Kalan, Barnala and Lehragaga so that the situation could be monitored closely.”
The Chief Minister added, “These technology-driven initiatives continued after I assumed the responsibility of serving Punjab as Chief Minister. Technology is now an important component of our strategy to make policing more effective.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said his has undertaken comprehensive measures to modernise the police force, adding, “The Sadak Surakhya Force is a major example of specialised and technology-enabled policing. It was created to strengthen road safety and emergency response and has helped save several precious lives since its launch in February 2024.
The Chief Minister said, “Punjab Police is not only fighting crime but is also playing an important role in preventing drug abuse among youngsters. At the same time, our police force is also serving as a frontline defence for national security.”
Urging the officers to focus on prevention, he said, “You should visit educational institutions and conduct awareness programmes so that our youth can be protected from the devastating consequences of drugs. The fight against drugs does not end with arresting a drug peddler. We also have to save the person who has fallen into addiction.”
He said, “Our focus is equally on de-addiction, rehabilitation and giving every drug victim an opportunity to begin life afresh. We have to ensure that a person who has fallen prey to addiction is able to return to a normal and productive life.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann added, “The state government is also holding discussions with the Union Government for making the NDPS Act more stringent so that drug trafficking can be tackled more effectively.”
Emphasising the welfare of police personnel, the Chief Minister said, “The welfare of our police personnel remains a priority for the state government. We have taken several steps, including facilitating leave for police personnel, expediting the disposal of pending pension-related cases and speeding up procedures in crime and drug-related matters.”
On strengthening the police force, he said, “We are directly recruiting 450 ASIs. Around 3,400 recruits are presently undergoing training, while 10,000 additional police posts are proposed to be advertised in the coming financial year. Recruitment is being carried out through a transparent and fully merit-based process. We are expanding and modernising the police force so that our personnel have the strength and resources required to discharge their responsibilities effectively.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Punjab Police has a proud legacy of service and sacrifice and is today making an immense contribution towards building a ‘Rangla Punjab’. You have to go all guns blazing against drugs because this uniform carries the trust of every family in Punjab.”
Giving a clarion call to police personnel, he said, “Protect this trust with honesty, courage and compassion. Ensure that the name of Punjab Police is etched in golden letters in the history of Punjab for winning the war against drugs and protecting the future of our youth.”
The Chief Minister said, “I have not come here for a formal meeting with senior officers of the Punjab Police. I have come to meet the SHOs who work at the ground level. You are the officers who interact directly with people and face the challenges of policing every day. This battle is extremely challenging because Punjab is a border state and we are also fighting a war against drug trafficking coming across the international border.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Punjab shares a 553-kilometre-long international border with Pakistan. Six districts, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Ferozepur and Fazilka, share the border with Pakistan. Our neighbouring country is making sinister attempts to smuggle drugs across the border through drones, with the intention of harming Punjab, a land of hardworking and prosperous people. We have to remain vigilant and prevent these attempts from succeeding.”
Highlighting the action taken against drugs, the Chief Minister noted, “In the last four and a half years, the state government has taken stringent action against drugs. More than 95,644 FIRs have been registered under the NDPS Act and around 1,27,821 arrests have been made. More than 7,265 kg of heroin has been recovered. As part of the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign, property worth ₹375 crore belonging to drug smugglers has been seized.”
He said community participation has emerged as an important component of the anti-drug campaign, adding, “Village Defence Committees have provided 24,083 confidential inputs to the police. On the basis of these inputs, 4,843 FIRs were registered and 6,515 persons were arrested. The police remain dedicated to public service 24 hours a day. As the government’s frontline force, putting drug smugglers behind bars is the moral duty of the police. We are fighting this battle against drugs at the ground level and SHOs are the real warriors on the battlefield, fighting day and night against the enemies of society.”
The Chief Minister also thanked the families of police personnel, saying, “I salute the families of our police personnel who stand firmly by them and support them in the smooth discharge of their duties. Their contribution is equally important in this difficult battle.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann categorically said, “This is not your battle alone. It is the war of the entire Punjab and it is a war for the future of our youth. Every section of society has to come together in this fight.”
He said the responsibility of police officers posted in border areas is even greater, adding, “Attempts are being made to send drugs across the international border through drones. A drone may carry the drugs, but behind every such drone is a human mind with a criminal intent.”
The Chief Minister said, “A close watch on drone activity is possible only with the active cooperation of local communities. The people living in border areas have an important role to play in identifying suspicious activity and sharing timely information with the police.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann concluded, “The Punjab Police has to win this battle with honesty, courage, professionalism and compassion. We have to protect our youth, safeguard our families and ensure a drug-free future for Punjab.”
On the occasion, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, DGP Gaurav Yadav and other senior officers were also present.

FATEHGARH CHURIAN; 3rd October 2026:Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said Punjab is now seeing a clear contrast between “Kaam Ki Rajneeti” and the family-centric politics of the past. During a massive Lok Milni at Ghanie Ke Bangar in Fatehgarh Churian, the Chief Minister highlighted free electricity for 90% of households, treatment up to ₹10 lakh, canal water for 88% of agricultural land and direct financial assistance to mothers and sisters, saying his government had focused on taking the benefits of governance directly to the people.
The Chief Minister pointed out that in just four-and-a-half years, his government had delivered more work than the 22 years of Congress and Akali rule, while the transformation of government schools had taken Punjab to the top position in education. Pointing to the overwhelming response during the public survey at the gathering, he said the people’s message was clear ahead of 2027.
Taking to X, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated: “Today, the love and enthusiasm shown by the people of Majha who gathered for a massive public meeting at Ghanie Ke Bangar village in Fatehgarh Churian constituency was truly overwhelming. The traditional parties looted Punjab in the name of ‘me and my family’, but we have worked with honesty and integrity, providing free electricity to 90% of households, free treatment up to ₹10 lakh, canal water to farmers’ fields, and direct financial assistance to mothers and sisters. It is because of these policies that Punjab has today emerged as the number one state in the country in education.”
“During the public survey conducted at the rally, the overwhelming response from the people, with hands raised in support, demonstrated that their trust remains with us. It has also shown that in 2027, the people of Punjab will once again choose the path of development. Inquilab Zindabad,” the post concluded.
Addressing the Lok Milni in the Fatehgarh Churian Assembly constituency, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that his government’s focus was on reducing the financial burden on families, strengthening public institutions and delivering tangible improvements in essential services. “Governance has meaning only when its benefits reach the doorstep of the common man. Our government is working to reduce the financial burden on families and strengthen essential public services,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that around 90% of households in Punjab were benefiting from free electricity, while the state government had also introduced health initiatives under which families could receive treatment cover of up to ₹10 lakh. He said that these interventions were aimed at ensuring that public resources translated into direct relief for ordinary families. “Our approach is clear: public money must be used for public welfare. Whether it is electricity, healthcare, education or irrigation, the benefits must reach ordinary people,” he said.
He said that his government had also focused on expanding canal irrigation, with canal water now reaching 88 per cent of agricultural fields, according to figures cited by him. He said that strengthening irrigation infrastructure was essential for reducing farmers’ dependence on groundwater and supporting the agricultural economy of Punjab. “Expanding canal irrigation is important not only for agriculture but also for protecting Punjab’s groundwater. We have to strengthen the state’s agricultural economy while protecting its natural resources,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives for women, he said that financial support for mothers and sisters was an important component of its welfare-oriented approach. He said that the government was working to ensure that women received greater economic support and that welfare measures reached families directly.
Taking a political swipe at previous governments, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Congress and Akali Dal governments had remained trapped in what he described as the politics of family and personal interests. He said that the people of Punjab had the right to compare the work done by different governments on issues that directly affected their daily lives. “Punjab needs politics that talks about schools, hospitals, electricity, irrigation, employment, infrastructure and the future of our youth. The real test of any government is what it delivers to the people,” he said.
The Chief Minister pointed out that his government had undertaken extensive development work in its four-and-a-half years in office and contrasted it with the 22 years during which Congress and Akali governments had governed Punjab. He listed education, healthcare, electricity, irrigation, employment and infrastructure among the key areas where his government had focused on delivery.
He said that education remained one of the central pillars of his government’s agenda. He said that government schools, which had suffered from years of neglect, were being transformed through improved infrastructure, modern facilities and greater focus on the quality of education. “Government schools are not merely buildings; they are the future of Punjab’s children. We are transforming these institutions so that students get an environment where they can compete with the best,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that education reforms had contributed to Punjab attaining a leading position in national education assessments. He added that the transformation of government schools demonstrated what could be achieved when public institutions received sustained attention and resources.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the government’s approach towards electricity, healthcare and irrigation had a direct bearing on household expenditure, agricultural productivity and the overall economic well-being of Punjab. He said that affordable healthcare, reliable public services and improved infrastructure were central to the government’s service-delivery model. “Punjab has immense potential. The state needs a governance model focused on development and public welfare, with measurable outcomes for the people,” he affirmed.
Referring to the political situation in Punjab, he said that parties that had governed the state in the past were now attempting to come together despite their differences. Referring to Congress, Akali Dal and BJP, he said that these parties were seeking political space in Punjab after having governed the state at different points in its history.
He said that the people would examine the record of different governments and compare their performance on issues affecting everyday life. “The people of Punjab are capable of judging the record of every government. They will decide on the basis of the work that has been done and the issues that affect their families,” said CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.
During the Lok Milni, the Chief Minister also interacted directly with residents and heard their concerns regarding local development and public services. He said that direct interaction with people was an important mechanism for understanding ground realities and ensuring that administrative interventions addressed genuine local requirements.
He assured residents that the concerns raised during the Lok Milni would be examined by the concerned departments and appropriate action would be taken in accordance with government policy and available resources.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab had faced serious challenges over the decades, including unemployment, drug abuse, declining groundwater levels, inadequate public infrastructure and weaknesses in public institutions. He said that addressing these challenges required sustained policy intervention rather than temporary political announcements.“Punjab’s development cannot be achieved through announcements alone. It requires sustained work, strong public institutions and a continuous focus on the welfare of the people,” affirmed the Chief Minister.
He reiterated that his government would continue to place ordinary citizens at the centre of its governance agenda and that the performance of public institutions would remain the principal measure of administrative success.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Lok Milni provided residents of Fatehgarh Churian an opportunity to raise local issues directly with the Chief Minister. He said that Punjab’s development required collective effort and a sustained focus on public welfare, education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and employment.
