Chandigarh, September 25:Continuing its humanitarian assistance to the people affected by the devastating flash floods in Nepal, the Punjab State Red Cross today dispatched its third and largest consignment of relief material, further strengthening its ongoing relief campaign in solidarity with the people of Nepal.

Seven large trucks carrying approximately 52 tonnes of essential relief supplies, worth more than approximately ₹1.40 crore, were flagged off from Punjab Lok Bhavan, Chandigarh, by the Punjab Governor and President, Punjab State Red Cross, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria.

The relief material has been generously donated by Amazon, with representatives of Amazon and Donatekart Foundation present on the occasion, along with Shri Shivdular Singh Dhillon, Secretary, Punjab State Red Cross.

The consignment includes essential items such as generator sets, blankets, tarpaulins, solar lights and other emergency relief supplies. Shri Kataria said that the material had been procured strictly in accordance with the requirement list shared by the Nepal Red Cross Society, ensuring that the assistance being sent addresses the immediate needs of the flood-affected people.

This is the third major consignment being dispatched by the Punjab State Red Cross as part of its continuing humanitarian assistance to Nepal. The first consignment, dispatched on September 1, comprised three trucks carrying ready-to-eat food items, ration, clothes and other essential relief material worth more than approximately ₹10 lakh. This was followed by the second consignment on September 18, comprising essential relief supplies worth approximately ₹38 lakh, which was sent through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in coordination with the Nepal Red Cross Society. The second consignment was prepared in accordance with the specific requirements communicated by the Nepal Red Cross, with a Punjab Red Cross team accompanying the relief material to the Nepalgunj International Border for handover to the concerned representatives.

Shri Kataria expressed his gratitude to Amazon, Donatekart and all other contributors for extending generous support to the relief campaign. He appreciated the efforts of the Punjab State Red Cross in coordinating the collection, procurement and dispatch of relief material for the affected people of Nepal. The Governor also highlighted that the present consignment carries an additional local economic benefit, as the relief material donated by Amazon has been sourced from the Punjab and Chandigarh region, thereby supporting businesses and suppliers in the surrounding area while contributing to the humanitarian relief effort.

Shri Kataria said that the people of Punjab have always stood by those facing hardship and reiterated that the Punjab State Red Cross and the people of Punjab stand in solidarity with the Nepal Red Cross and the people of Nepal during this hour of need. The latest dispatch marks another significant step in Punjab's continuing humanitarian response to the flash flood situation in Nepal, reaffirming the spirit of compassion, cooperation and service that guides the Red Cross movement.
