MC Chandigarh intensifies anti-encroachment drive; 3 trucks seized, 53 challans issued across key markets

Chandigarh, March 7:-Continuing its firm resolve to maintain public spaces free from encroachments and ensure smooth movement in city markets and corridors, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh carried out an intensive anti-encroachment drive today in multiple sectors of the city.

During the enforcement drive in Sector 26, the MC enforcement team seized and impounded three trucks that were illegally vending coconuts and watermelons in the outer areas, obstructing public movement and violating municipal regulations.

The team simultaneously conducted anti-encroachment operations in the Furniture Market of Sector 34 and the outer area of Sector 22. During the drive near Kisan Bhawan, an unauthorized ice-cream vendor operating from a rehri was also impounded for illegal vending.

Overall, the enforcement teams issued 53 challans against violators for unauthorized vending and encroachment. The drive also resulted in the clearing of major corridors in Sector 34 Furniture Market and the outer areas of Sector 22, restoring pedestrian pathways and easing vehicular movement.

While speaking about the drive, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, said that such strict enforcement drives will continue regularly to keep public spaces free from illegal encroachments and to maintain the planned character and cleanliness of the city.

He urged residents and market associations to cooperate with the civic body and discourage unauthorized vending and encroachments in public areas.

Cow Welfare Committee for relocation of cattle from unsafe facility during inspection of Gaushalas

Chandigarh, March 7:-In a decisive move to strengthen animal welfare standards in the city, the Cow Welfare Committee conducted a comprehensive inspection of cattle pounds at Raipur Kalan and Industrial Area, Phase-1 today under the chairmanship of MC Special Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS.

The inspection team comprised Sh. Ramesh Kumar (Member), Sh. Vinod Bansal (Member) and Sh. Mohinder Parthak, Health Supervisor, MCC and other concerned officials deplyoed at Gaushalas. The visit was undertaken to review the ongoing “Care for Cattle” initiative being implemented by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to ensure better facilities, health care and protection for stray cattle in the city.

During the inspection of the cattle pound at Industrial Area, Phase-1, the Committee observed that the existing building infrastructure has deteriorated considerably and the structure was found to be unsafe for housing livestock. Taking serious note of the condition, the Committee asked the officials concerned to shift the cattle from the Phase-1 facility to other functional gaushalas across the city to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals.

The Committee further issued directions for urgent civil repair and strengthening works to be initiated at the site so that the facility can be restored and made suitable for cattle care at the earliest.

Meanwhile, during the visit to the Raipur Kalan Gaushala, the Committee expressed satisfaction over the overall cleanliness, management and health condition of the cattle. The officials and staff managing the gaushala were appreciated for maintaining proper standards of animal care and upkeep.

The Special Commissioner directed to ensuring safe shelter, proper healthcare and dignified living conditions for stray cattle in Chandigarh and further directed the officials concerned to maintain strict monitoring of all cattle care facilities in the city.
