MC Chandigarh imposes ₹13,401 challan for littering; violator traced through parcel slip
Chandigarh, December 15:- In a firm action against littering and violation of Solid Waste Management (MSW) Rules, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has issued a challan of ₹13,401 to a resident of Sector 15-B for dumping waste in a public place.
During a routine inspection, the MCC sanitation team found a parcel packed in mixed waste lying in the open. On scrutiny, the team traced the violator by following the address mentioned on the parcel slip, demonstrating MCC’s strict monitoring and accountability mechanism to curb irresponsible waste disposal.
Taking serious note of the violation, the challan was issued as per provisions of the MSW Rules. The MCC Commissioner reiterated that littering and open dumping would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Appealing to the general public, the Commissioner urged citizens to avoid throwing waste in open areas and instead hand over segregated waste—wet and dry—to designated MC collection vehicles. Public cooperation is essential to maintain cleanliness and support MCC’s collective effort to make Chandigarh a No.1 city in Swachhata.
