Chandigarh, 28th September, 2025: Under the leadership of Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, IPS, Director General of Police, U.T., Chandigarh, and guidance of Sh. Pushpendra Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Police, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (Security and Traffic) and the close supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DANIPS, DSP/Traffic (R&D) Road Safety, Chandigarh Traffic Police is conducting a series of road safety activities under the Safe Drive Campaign as part of ongoing ‘Seva Pakhwada-2025’ initiative being observed from 17th September to 2nd October 2025.

As a part of Seva Pakhwada initiative, a Road Safety Session was organized for students at S.D College Sector-32 Chandigarh. The event was graced by Principal Dr.Ajay Sharma, Dr.virender Singh, and Dr. Gaganpret Walia, Head of the Department. Around 220 participants were sensitized through this session, focused on enhancing awareness of traffic regulations and promoting responsible driving behavior.A road safety quiz was also conducted, and trophies were awarded to the winners.

The awareness team led by Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector, In-charge of the Children Traffic Park consisting SI Roshni Devi, HC Rahul , Sr. Ct. Rajiv, Ct. Pardeep & Vol. Jagdambha Prasad Shukla educated all the participants on essential traffic rules and regulations, with a focus on importance of wearing seat belts, proper safety head gear (helmet) of BIS standards I.S.I Mark, use of indicators, maintaining lane discipline, engine switch-off at red lights to reduce the pollution, specification for inbuilt tint glass & sunshades in the vehicles, reduce air pollution, over speed and following road signage and traffic signals. Emphasis was also placed on the significance of giving way to Emergency Vehicles i.e. Ambulance, Fire-Brigade & Police Vehicles and also to assist injured persons in reaching hospitals. They were also sensitized to park their motor vehicle at proper parking places instead of parking on roads, footpaths, Cycle tracks & turns. They were also sensitized to the dangers of mobile phone use, underage driving, unnecessary honking, and driving under the influence of alcohol while driving. They were informed about importance holding a valid driving license, following traffic rules and developing a responsible attitude towards road safety. They were informed about penalties of driving a vehicle without valid license under the Motor Vehicles Act. They were encouraged to provide immediate assistance to accident victims and were informed that Good Samaritans are protected from civil or criminal liability for any unintended consequences while extending help.

At the conclusion, a Road Safety Pledge was administered to all participants, encouraging them to strictly follow traffic rules and contribute towards safer roads.The primary goal of this session was to make Chandigarh a city with zero accidental deaths by raising awareness and motivating the public to adopt safe driving habits.
