CHANDIGARH, 20.09.25-TheAEC-PGI Ocular Genetics Workshop, OCUGEN was held on 18–19 September and brought together leading experts, clinicians, and researchers to advance understanding of ocular genetics. Under the Chairmanship of Prof SS Pandav and the Organizing Secretary Prof Sushmita Kaushik, the event successfully brought together leading experts, clinicians, and researchers for a two-day physical and online conference discussing many aspects of the rapidly evolving field of ocular genetics.
The lead resource persons were Prof Arif Khan, Section Chief, Paediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Genetics, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Abu Dhabi, and Ms Hannah Scanga, Chief Genetic Counsellor, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, USA.
Sessions covered genetic report interpretation, clinical phenotyping, and their relevance across retina, glaucoma, cornea, oncology and pediatric ophthalmology.
The highlight was the Evening Dinner CME, “Everyday Genetics for the Ophthalmologist”, where Prof Amod Gupta, Emeritus Professor PGIMER was the Chief Guest and Prof Jagat Ram, Former Director PGIMER, and Prof MR Dogra, former HOD Ophthalmology, PGIMER, were Guests of Honour.
The session offered practical insights into genetic testing, counselling, and case-based learning, followed by a lively panel discussion on real-world challenges.Day two focused on hands-on patient examinations and genetic report correlation, bridging theory with practice. With active participation and expert-led sessions, OCUGEN helped in empowering clinicians to interpret genetic results and counsel families, ensuring patients receive more accurate diagnoses, personalized treatment plans, and better-informed care.
