Chandigarh, August 19:- City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla today chaired a review meeting on the NAKSHA (National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations) program initiated by the Department of Land Resources (DOLR) under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP). The meeting was attended by Councillors Sh. Kanwarjeet Rana and Sh. Mahesh Inder Singh Siddhu, along with officials of the Municipal Corporation.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the NAKSHA program will revolutionize urban land governance in Chandigarh by creating a comprehensive and accurate geospatial database of urban land records. She emphasized that the initiative will not only bring transparency but also ensure ease of living and ease of doing business for citizens.

The Mayor said Urban land records in Chandigarh will now be fully digitized and GIS-mapped, ensuring structured, transparent, and easily accessible data. This will empower citizens, reduce land disputes, and help us in smarter urban planning and development,”.

The Mayor highlighted the major outcomes of the program:

Reduction in Land Disputes & Legal Clarity: Updated ownership records will minimize disputes, speed up legal processes, and safeguard property rights.

Faster & More Efficient Urban Planning: Accurate geospatial data will help in zoning, infrastructure development, transport planning, housing projects, and sustainable city growth.

Improved Property Tax Collection: A centralized digital tax system will strengthen the financial position of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and reduce tax evasion.

Simplified Property Transactions: Verified land records will make buying, selling, leasing, and loan approvals faster, secure, and fraud-free.

Enhanced Transparency & Governance: A real-time, accessible digital system will curb corruption, improve public trust, and strengthen e-Governance initiatives.

Boost to Real Estate & Infrastructure Investments: Clear legal frameworks will encourage private investments, support smart city projects, and accelerate economic growth.

The Mayor further said
the NAKSHA program is a milestone in modernizing land governance. It will not only benefit citizens by making property transactions hassle-free but also strengthen the financial and planning capacity of the Municipal Corporation. Chandigarh will be among the leading cities in adopting advanced geospatial technology for urban development,”.

The Mayor also directed the officials to ensure timely completion of survey work under NAKSHA, and to keep the public informed about the benefits of this transformative initiative.
