Chandigarh, 19 August: On the second day of the Induction Week, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised an insightful session on Cyber Safety and Social Media Management. The session envisioned to equip students with practical knowledge to protect themselves and others from cyber threats, while promoting responsible digital citizenship.
The resource person, Mr. Rajesh Rana, a national cyber security expert and Founder of Stellar Data Solutions Pvt. Ltd., shared his expertise on navigating the digital world responsibly and securely. Highlighting the alarming rise of mule accounts, money laundering, and online scams on platforms such as Telegram and WhatsApp, he drew attention to the pressing need for vigilance in today’s cyber landscape. He pointed out that globally one in eight children is exploited online, a statistic that underscores the urgency of cyber safety awareness. Mr. Rana also elaborated on the misuse of Instagram by cybercriminals, explaining how its massive youth base and image-driven content make it a potential hub for exploitation. He emphasised the importance of strong passwords, strict privacy settings, and responsible usage of social media platforms. Advocating for balanced screen time, he encouraged students to share positive content to foster harmony in society. Additionally, he discussed the relevance of cyber laws and the adoption of healthy digital habits as essential tools to safeguard one’s online presence.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma commended the initiative, as she impressed upon the fact that in today’s interconnected world, cyber safety is not an option but a necessity. Reminding the students of their responsibility to use technology and social media responsibly, she added that such sessions make them aware of the potential dangers and also empower them to safeguard themselves, their friends, and their families from online threats.
