Chandigarh, August 4, 2025: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women held the inaugural session of a four-day performing arts workshop titled ‘Theatre: Dynamics and Dexterity’ here today. The workshop is being organized by Parwaaz, the college’s Dramatics Club, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi (CSNA), with the aim of nurturing theatrical talent and encouraging holistic development through the performing arts.
The inaugural session was graced by renowned Punjabi actor, theatre artist, and director Rana Ranbir, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Rajesh Atreya, Secretary, CSNA, as the Special Guest. In an inspiring and heartfelt address, Rana Ranbir spoke about the transformative power of theatre in his personal life. Drawing a poignant comparison, he remarked, “Cinema may be my father, but theatre is like a nurturing mother.” Candidly sharing his college experiences of facing bullying due to his short height, he credited theatre for instilling in him the confidence and resilience to rise above societal judgments. Emphasising the deeper impact of theatre, he described it as a form of meditation that cultivates discipline, self-love, punctuality, confidence, and a chiselled personality. Addressing the young participants, he encouraged them to be avid readers and listeners, remain consistent in their practice, and most importantly, to enjoy the artistic journey. Special Guest Rajesh Atreya echoed these sentiments, highlighting theatre as a powerful medium that fosters all-round development. He urged the participants to pursue their dreams with passion and determination.
Ms. Neena Sharma, Officiating Principal, extended a warm welcome to the guests and participants. She lauded the initiative taken by Parwaaz and CSNA to enrich students’ lives through theatre, and emphasised the institution’s commitment to fostering creativity and expression among its students.
