MCC conducts anti-encroachment drive in sector 26, cleared adjoining green belt: 75 tractortrolleysremoved from the site
Chandigarh, May 24:– In a concerted effort to reclaim public land and maintain civic order, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh carried out a major anti-encroachment drive today at 6:00 AM in Sector 26 near the Sabzi Mandi area. The operation was executed jointly by the Enforcement Wing, MOH, and the Horticulture Wing of the MCC.
Following the directions of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, the drive targeted illegal encroachments by watermelon, melon, and other fruit vendors who had occupied the green belt adjoining the mandi premises. Approximately 75 tractor trolleys were removed from the site.
It was observed that slips were being issued to these vendors by the Market Committee and Aarthiyas, despite the area falling under MCC’s jurisdiction. The Horticulture Wing has been instructed to install barricades along the green belt to prevent future encroachments.
The Market Committee has been directed not to issue receipts or permits to unauthorized vendors operating in this area.
The Commissioner has issued a stern warning to violators, stating that any future encroachment will invite strict legal action.
MCC remains committed to maintaining public spaces and ensuring compliance with municipal regulations for the benefit of all citizens.

MC Chandigarh begins issuing challans for Public Littering Using CCTV Surveillance
Chandigarh, May 24:- In a firm step towards cleaner and more responsible urban living, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started issuing challans to individuals found throwing garbage in public places with the help of CCTV surveillance installed across the city.
In a recent action today evening, two challans were issued near BSNL, Manimajra, for violations caught on camera. Each violator has been penalized with a fine of Rs. 13,401 in accordance with the municipal guidelines.
The initiative is part of MCC’s broader mission to promote proper waste management and ensure adherence to the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Rules. Citizens are reminded that waste segregation at the source is mandatory. Segregated waste must be handed over to MCC's designated waste collectors only.
MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, emphasized the seriousness of the initiative, stating, “No one will be spared if found throwing garbage in public spaces. With the help of CCTV surveillance, we will first issue challans to the violators and follow it up with strict legal action for repeated offences.”
