MAHENDERGARH, 06.05.25-A one-day national workshop on the effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act was organized by the RTI Cell at the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendragarh on Tuesday 6th May, 2025. Dr. Digvijay Singh, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi was present as the keynote speaker. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of CUH, who emphasized the critical role of RTI in fostering transparency in administrative systems. He noted that such events are valuable for enhancing understanding and efficiency among institutional stakeholders. Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar appreciated the efforts of the organizers and highlighted the need for a transparent working environment to ensure the smooth implementation of RTI Act.
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Vikas Garg, First Appellate Authority of the University. This was followed by a brief introduction of the workshop from Prof. Rajeev Kumar Singh, CPIO of the University. In his address, Dr. Digvijay Singh provided an in-depth overview of the RTI Act and its various dimensions. He also discussed critical aspects such as data protection and individual privacy, explaining how these are defined within the scope of the Act. Dr. Singh emphasized the importance, necessity, and proper implementation of RTI and shared insights into institutional practices that can reduce the number of RTI applications by ensuring proactive disclosure and internal transparency. He also talked about Right to information in reference to Right to privacy.

On this occasion Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University also highlighted the important role played by the RTI Cell and urged participants to adopt a cooperative attitude. He noted that the RTI Act is fundamentally a system designed to provide information to interested applicants in a structured and legal manner. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Rajeev Kumar Singh. The event saw enthusiastic participation from a large number of academic and non-academic staff members. Notable attendees included Prof. Payal Kanwar Chandel, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Prof. Bir Pal Singh Yadav, Prof. Harish Kumar, and other esteemed faculty members and non-teaching staff.
