Chandigarh, June 1, 2023: The graduating students of Textile Design of the Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT), Mohali (a Govt of Punjab initiative, affiliated to IKG PTU), showcased their final design collection during SUVYAN 2023 exhibition at Hotel Shivalik View here. It was announced at the show that June 4 is the last date to apply for admission to the UG and PG courses of the NIIFT institutes. NIIFT imparts professional training in the fields of Design, Management and Technology. NIIFT offers the following programs: B.Sc. in Fashion Design, B.Sc. Textile Design , B.Sc. Knitwear Design & Technology, BVoc in Fashion Design & Garment Technology, MSc in Fashion Marketing & Management, and MDes in Fashion & Textiles.

A lot of variety and the latest trends were on display at the exhibition. Ishika Raheja presented Chikankari, Didri Art and Suzani. Khushi Garg explored hand artworks and used digital print techniques for the home furnishing collection. Muskan Raj worked on three themes, Badamwari, Parsi Gara Embroidery and Phulkari. Shweta Rani worked on themes like Fall Nature, Easter and Thanksgiving. Ashutosh Jha presented his work of Digital Printed Apparel, Textures and bags with upcycled fabrics.

These students were presented with the Textile Design Awards. Ishika bagged the 'Best Design Collection' award, Khushi got the award for 'Most Innovative Collection', Muskan received the award for the 'Most Commercial Collection', Shweta Rani received the 'Special Jury Award', and Ashutosh Jha got 'Best Design Methodology' award.

Dr Poonam Aggarwal Thakur, Principal, NIIFT Mohali said, “The students have worked day and night to accomplish the assignment in line with International Textile industry standards.”

“Suvyan has been very close to my heart as students put in their heart and soul in creating beautiful pieces of work which are ultimately recognized by the industry”, said Dr Shweta Sharma, Course Coordinator, Textile Design Department and Coordinator Suvyan.

42 collections of apparel, accessories and home furnishing products were showcased, under the guidance of Dr Deepti Sharma, Dr Shweta Sharma and Dr Meeta Gawri. All the products were designed keeping in mind the latest trends of the companies. The jury included Sanjay Kulsheshtra, VP of Woven Fabric Quality, Nahar Fabrics, and Pradeep Rattan, Director, Pihu Home Decor, Noida.

Each student worked with an industrial client for a period of 5 months which led to the development of their individual collections and exhibition of design work. The industrial clients included Nahar Fabrics, Trident, Mittal International, Shingora Shawls, Reino Designs, Pihu Home Decor, Art Age, Jawandsons Pvt Ltd, Apex International, CTA Apparels, Valutex International and Neelambari Home and Lifestyles.
