Chandigarh, October 11, 2026-The Mahila Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chandigarh Pradesh, staged a strong protest on Sunday against Rahul Gandhi’s alleged indecent behaviour concerning the dignity and respect of women. Led by Chandigarh Pradesh Mahila Morcha President Sonam Verma, a large number of women office-bearers and workers took out a protest march from the BJP state office, Kamalam, Sector 33. The march proceeded towards Congress Bhawan in Sector 35 with the objective of gheraoing the Congress office.

The protest witnessed strong resentment among Mahila Morcha office-bearers and women workers. Raising slogans against the Congress leadership, the protesters prominently highlighted the issues of women’s dignity, self-respect and respect in public life.

Questions Raised Over the Delhi Incident

The protest was primarily organised in response to videos that surfaced following the opposition parties’ protest against the Election Commission in Delhi on October 7. The BJP has alleged that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra behaved inappropriately towards women police personnel during the incident.

According to the BJP’s allegations, a video involving Rahul Gandhi raised concerns regarding alleged pushing and jostling with a woman police officer, while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was accused of elbowing a woman police personnel. The BJP Mahila Morcha questioned why leaders who speak about women’s rights and dignity should not also be expected to treat women police personnel with respect.

The BJP stated that women police personnel perform their duties to maintain law and order and deserve dignity and respect. Treating them respectfully is the responsibility of every citizen and public representative.

Jatinder Pal Malhotra: Respect for Women Must Remain Paramount

BJP Chandigarh Pradesh President Jatinder Pal Malhotra said that the dignity and respect of women must remain above all political ideologies. Every leader active in public life is expected to maintain decorum through their conduct. Allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards women police personnel are serious and warrant accountability from the concerned leaders. He said that the voice raised by the BJP Mahila Morcha reflects the party’s commitment to women’s dignity and self-respect.

Sanjay Tandon: Compromise on Women’s Dignity Is Unacceptable

Former BJP Chandigarh Pradesh President Sanjay Tandon said that respect for women is the foundation of a civilised society. While the right to protest is an essential part of democracy, maintaining decorum and respecting the law during protests is equally important. Women police personnel perform their duties with responsibility and deserve respectful treatment. Political leaders must be accountable on matters concerning women’s dignity.

Ramveer Bhatti: BJP Remains Committed to Women’s Respect

BJP Chandigarh Pradesh General Secretary Ramveer Bhatti said that the Mahila Morcha’s protest reflects the party’s resolve to safeguard the dignity and self-respect of women. Any allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards women must be taken seriously and questioned. He reiterated that the BJP will continue to raise its voice for women’s rights, safety and dignity while advocating responsible and respectful conduct in public life.

Police Stop Protest March Before Congress Bhawan

The protest march, which began at Kamalam in Sector 33, proceeded towards Congress Bhawan in Sector 35. Police personnel stopped the protesters by placing barricades in front of the Prasar Bharati Centre, some distance before Congress Bhawan.
