Chandigarh, 10.10.26-: BJP former Councillor Shakti Prakash Devshali, reacting to the protest by the INDI Alliance-backed “Cockroach Janata Party” demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, criticised the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party. He alleged that the Congress and other parties were misleading the youth and making a malicious attempt to create an atmosphere of instability in the country through such protests.
He said that while the right to protest is a fundamental democratic right of every citizen, political opposition on matters concerning constitutional institutions must remain within the bounds of facts, reason, and democratic propriety. Rahul Gandhi and other INDI Alliance leaders, he alleged, were attempting to spread distrust towards constitutional institutions by making false statements. Attempts to exert pressure on constitutional institutions or the established system merely for political opposition could weaken democratic discourse.
Devshali said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party of vote theft, seemed to have forgotten that the BJP came to power at the Centre only in 2014, whereas the Congress has been out of power in Tamil Nadu since 1967, West Bengal since 1977, Sikkim since 1984, Uttar Pradesh since 1989, Bihar since 1990, Gujarat since 1996, Odisha since 2000, and Nagaland since 2003.
Taking a dig at the Congress, Devshali said that the Congress party and INDI Alliance leaders must clearly understand that attempts to establish Rahul Gandhi as a leader through baseless allegations and movements aimed at destabilising the country would never succeed.
Devshali appealed to all political parties to respect democratic traditions and the dignity of constitutional institutions. He urged them not to spread confusion or make false statements to serve their political interests and thereby create distrust among the people towards constitutional institutions.
