Chandigarh, 10 October: The Department of Botany at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry and under the aegis of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), organised a laboratory visit-cum-hands-on workshop for students of Classes IX and XI from Bhavan R. K. Saboo Vidyalaya, New Chandigarh.
The workshop, conducted by Dr. Jasleen Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, introduced students to section-cutting and staining techniques used in preparing permanent plant anatomy slides. Following a demonstration in the Botany Laboratory, the students gained practical experience by performing these techniques themselves. During their visit to the Chemistry Laboratory, Dr. Swatika Sharma familiarised the students with the working principles, applications and significance of various advanced laboratory instruments, offering them valuable insights into practical scientific research.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma emphasised the importance of academic outreach and experiential learning in bridging the gap between school and higher education while nurturing scientific curiosity and encouraging young learners to explore careers in science.
