Chandigarh, October 5, 2026:The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today felicitated government school students, teachers and mentors for their achievements at national-level platforms. He also felicitated the principals of three Chandigarh government schools that secured positions among the Top 10 Government Day Co-Ed Schools in India in the Education World India School Rankings 2026-27.
During the felicitation ceremony Administrator was accompanied by Chief Secretary U.T. Chandigarh Shri H. Rajesh Prasad; Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor of Punjab Shri Vivek Pratap Singh; Education Secretary Ms. Prerna Puri; and Director School Education Shri Nitish Singla.
Four students of Government Model High School, Dadumajra; Kavya (Class VIII), Dila Dangi (Class X), Suraj (Class X) and Khushboo (Class VIII) were also felicitated during the event. The students participated in the Know Your Leaders Programme held at the Central Hall of Parliament House, New Delhi, on October 2, 2026. Kavya, Dila Dangi and Suraj were among 12 students selected from across the country to deliver speeches on Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, while Khushboo participated as an invited student. The school was the only school from Chandigarh represented at the programme. These students shared their experience during the programme at Parliament House.
The Administrator also felicitated Janvi, Class 9, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mauli Jagran, for her selection for ISRO’s YUVIKA (Yuva Vigyani Karyakram), a programme that introduces school students to space science and technology. Janvi shared her experience and the knowledge she gained during the programme.
The Administrator felicitated the principals of three Chandigarh government schools for securing positions among India’s Top 10 Government Day Co-Ed Schools. Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, secured the first position, while Government Model Senior Secondary School, Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, secured the 9th and 10th positions, respectively.
The Administrator also felicitated Mr. Bharat Bhushan, TGT Social Science, and Ms. Preeti, TGT Science, for guiding the students for the Parliament programme. He appreciated the role of teachers and mentors in helping students develop confidence, skills and achieve opportunities at the national level.
Shri Kataria said that these achievements showed that government school students can excel in different fields when given the right opportunities and guidance. He also highlighted initiatives such as remedial classes, smart classrooms, free NCERT books, career guidance, aimed at supporting students’ learning and overall development.
The Administrator congratulated all the students, teachers, mentors, principals and schools and encouraged them to continue working hard and bringing greater recognition to Chandigarh.
