Strengthening Nutrition, Health and Community Awareness under 9th Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2026
Chandigarh, 5 October: As part of the 9th Rashtriya POSHAN Maah 2026, a series of nutrition, health and community awareness activities were organised across various locations in Chandigarh with the aim of promoting maternal and child health, healthy eating habits and overall well-being.
Anaemia Screening Camps were organised at Raipur Khurd, where haemoglobin (Hb) testing and health check-ups were conducted for 87 pregnant women. The camps focused on early identification of anaemia and creating awareness regarding maternal nutrition and health.
At Mani Majra, growth monitoring of children was undertaken along with individual nutrition counselling for children and mothers. Parents were sensitised on balanced nutrition, healthy feeding practices, personal hygiene and appropriate child-care practices, with emphasis on healthy growth and overall well-being.
A PMMVY Awareness Camp was also organised at Circle 25, where beneficiaries were sensitised about the scheme and the benefits available under it.
Awareness sessions were conducted on nutrition, oral hygiene, food fortification and micronutrients, identification and management of SAM, and the importance of complementary feeding, with the objective of strengthening knowledge on essential nutrition and child health practices.
Home visits were also undertaken to promote awareness on fruit-bearing plants, ECCE, oral hygiene, identification of childhood obesity and healthy eating habits, encouraging families to adopt healthy and nurturing practices at the household level.
The activities under POSHAN Maah reinforced the importance of collective community participation in improving nutrition, maternal and child health and promoting healthy lifestyles

PGGC-11 Launches AI Bridge Course to Empower Senior Citizens in the Digital Age
Five-day initiative focuses on everyday AI applications, digital safety, wellness and protection against cyber fraud
Chandigarh, October 5, 2026: Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, today launched a five-day bridge course titled “AI for Seniors: Empowering Everyday Life” to equip senior citizens with practical knowledge and confidence to navigate the evolving digital landscape.
The programme, being held from October 5 to 9, 2026, forms part of the college’s Institutional Social Responsibility and community outreach initiative. Designed for citizens aged 60 years and above, the course has a batch of 30 participants, with students providing one-to-one mentoring support.
Dr. Palika Arora, PCS, Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, inaugurated the programme as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address. The inaugural session included a welcome address by the Principal, an introduction of the participants and a vote of thanks.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Palika Arora said, “AI has the potential to make everyday life simpler and more accessible. This initiative will help senior citizens use technology safely and confidently, promoting greater digital independence and inclusion.”
The course covers the use of AI in daily life, health and wellness, hobbies, navigation, voice typing and smart services. It also focuses on digital safety, cyber scams and cybersecurity. Participants will learn to identify AI-generated voice scams and deepfakes, verify information shared on WhatsApp and safeguard sensitive information, including OTPs.
With over 60 per cent of the programme devoted to practical learning, the course emphasises hands-on experience and real-life applications.
Prof. (Dr.) Rama Arora, Principal, PGGC-11, said, “This initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide by providing senior citizens with a supportive environment to learn and use emerging technologies confidently. It also promotes meaningful intergenerational learning and community engagement.”
