Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla orders fast-track clearance of Legacy Waste; Directs Landscaping & Beautification of Site

Chandigarh, December 12:- City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla conducted a review visit to the city’s legacy waste site today. She was accompanied by the Sh. C.B. Ojha, Chief Engineer, SE, Horticulture and concerned officials of the Municipal Corporation. The visit aimed at assessing the present condition of the legacy waste mound and the pace of ongoing bio-mining and clearance operations.

After inspecting the area, Mayor Babla issued strict directions to accelerate the clearing of the legacy waste at the earliest. She instructed the engineering team to deploy additional machines, increase manpower, and ensure round-the-clock operations until a substantial reduction in waste heaps is achieved.

The Mayor emphasized that the legacy waste must be cleared as soon as possible to prevent environmental hazards, enhance sanitation, and improve the surrounding ecosystem. She further directed officials to begin planning landscaping and beautification of the reclaimed area so that the site can be transformed into a cleaner, greener public-friendly space.

Mayor Babla also instructed officials to share daily progress reports and to immediately resolve any delays or operational challenges.

Reaffirming the Corporation’s commitment to a cleaner and healthier Chandigarh, Mayor Babla said that solid waste management efforts will be intensified, and all required resources will be provided to expedite the legacy waste clearance and subsequent beautification work.

MC Chandigarh cracks down on unauthorized parking by sunday car bazaar sellers; 12 vehicles impounded

Chandigarh, December 12:- In a firm enforcement drive to uphold the lawful use of public parking spaces, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has taken strict action against second-hand car sellers of the authorized Sunday Car Bazaar for violating parking guidelines at the Manimajra paid parking site.

During a recent inspection, it was observed that several sellers participating in the Sunday Car Bazaar had failed to remove their vehicles from the designated area after the bazaar hours. Moreover, these vehicles were found parked without obtaining the mandatory paid parking slips, leading to unauthorized occupation of public space and disruption of regular parking operations.

Acting promptly on the directions of MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, on these violations, the MC enforcement team conducted a surprise inspection at the Manimajra paid parking site and seized a total of 12 vehicles belonging to defaulting sellers. The owners or their authorized representatives were unable to produce valid parking slips, following which the vehicles were impounded in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.

The Municipal Corporation has reiterated that while the Sunday Car Bazaar is an authorized activity permitted by the Corporation, all participants are required to strictly adhere to the prescribed norms, including timely removal of vehicles and compliance with paid parking procedures.

This decisive action aims to curb misuse of public parking spaces, prevent illegal commercial activities, and ensure smooth functioning of the city’s paid parking system. The MC Chandigarh has further stated that additional action will be initiated against the violators as per relevant laws and established procedures.

MC Chandigarh conducts major anti-encroachment drive; 37 challans issued across city markets

Chandigarh, December 12:- In a robust action to keep city markets organized and pedestrian-friendly, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh conducted an extensive anti-encroachment drive today across Sector 15, Sector 18 and Sector 22 mobile market areas.

During the drive, teams removed multiple unauthorized extensions, goods displayed on public corridors, and other obstructions that were hindering smooth pedestrian movement. A total of 37 challans were issued to violators for encroaching upon public spaces and conducting commercial activities outside the permitted limits.

The drive also ensured the complete clearance of public corridors, restoring safe and unobstructed pathways for citizens. The MC has reiterated that market areas must remain free from illegal encroachments and that strict action will continue against those attempting to misuse public land.
