CHANDIGARH, 01.10.25-A Bada Khana was organised at Football Ground Police Lines, Sector 26, Chandigarh on 30.09.2025, Hon'ble Governor of the Punjab-cum-Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria was the chief guest, Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Chief Secretary, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Shri Diprava Lakra, IAS, Finance Secrtary, Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda, IPS, Director General of Police UT Chandigarh Sh. Pushpendra Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Police, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, IPS, SSP, (Security and Traffic), Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, SSP/UT, Chandigarh and other senior police officials were also present there. Around 800 police personnel gathered and had dinner together.

The concept of Bada Khana is an age-old tradition in the police and armed forces, wherein officers and staff dine together as a symbol of unity, camaraderie, and brotherhood. It not only serves to strengthen mutual respect, discipline, and team spirit among the ranks but also seeks to win the trust and confidence of the people.

On the occasion, scholarships amounting to ₹1 crore 85 thousand were distributed to 402 wards of Chandigarh Police personnel. In addition, 21 students, who excelled in sports at the national and international level and those who topped in Class X and XII examinations, were felicitated by the Hon’ble Administrator, UT Chandigarh. These meritorious students were also handed over cheques in recognition of their achievements. (name of students and parents enclosed file)

The DGP Chandigarh expressed special gratitude to the families of police personnel, acknowledging their patience, understanding, and support which make police service possible. “Our families are the driving force behind every patrol, every mission, and every presence,” the DGP said. A tribute was also paid to colleagues who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, with a reaffirmation that their bravery and dedication will continue to inspire Chandigarh Police in facing every challenge.

The DGP further shared that Chandigarh Police has been receiving full support from the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and Finance Secretary on matters of future development, welfare schemes, and administrative reforms, under which a very positive administrative culture has developed at the headquarters.

Further, a General Body Meeting of the Chandigarh Police Welfare Society was also convened to discuss welfare issues of employees. As part of its welfare initiatives, Chandigarh Police has recently undertaken several measures for the well-being of its personnel, including:

1. Financial Assistance in Case of Death:

* Natural death: Increased from ₹1,00,000 to ₹3,00,000

* Accidental death (off duty): ₹5,00,000

* Accidental death (on duty): ₹10,00,000

2. Funeral Fees: Increased from ₹20,000 to ₹50,000.

3. Financial Assistance for Permanent Disability:

* Continuing in service: ₹1,00,000

* Retired officer with permanent disability: ₹3,00,000

4. Marriage Loan: Increased from ₹3,00,000 to ₹4,00,000.

5. Extraordinary Leave (EOL) Assistance: ₹20,000 per month for prolonged illness/sickness.

6. Education Loan: Up to ₹5,00,000 at 5% interest for son/daughter.

7. Transport of Mortal Remains: ₹20,000 assistance for air transportation

within India.

8. Emergency Medical Aid: ₹1,00,000 assistance along with paediatric

care facilities at the Police Hospital.

9. Return of Deposit Amount: Monthly salary deductions (with 3.5%

interest) suspended since 2022 will now be resumed, and arrears will also be given to those already retired.

The DGP highlighted that the daily routine and working style of police personnel is more challenging than other departments, often requiring duty on holidays and festivals. Hence, such welfare initiatives and recognition programmes are critical to support the force and their families. The Hon’ble Governor has announced 13th salary of Chandigarh Police personnels which was closed due to technical and administratvie problems for the last 2 years. The Chandigarh Police Family Welfare Centre was also inaugurated by Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator, UT Chandigarh on 30th September 2025. During inugrations classes of stiching, painting and baking were going on in the welfare centre for police wards and police wives.
