Chandigarh Organizes Multi-Faceted Drives to Promote Maternal and Child Health

Chandigarh, September 26, 2025: The Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, organized a series of health, nutrition, and awareness activities across the city to strengthen maternal and child well-being. The key initiatives included a Drive to create APAAR IDs and a PMMVY registration drive at Vikas Nagar, ensuring timely access to maternal benefits and institutional delivery services.

A Slogan Writing Competition on “Healthy and Good Habits” was held at Maloya to engage children and the community in promoting health-conscious behaviors. In Behlana, a lecture on breastfeeding and complementary feeding educated mothers about proper infant nutrition and the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding. Additionally, a puppet show was organized in Kajheri to create awareness about health, nutrition, and hygiene in an engaging and interactive manner for children and community members.

Several other activities were carried out across Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) to promote maternal and child health. These included the promotion of early breastfeeding, nutritional support for pregnant women through millet consumption, growth monitoring of children, and preschool education for children aged 3–6 years. Lectures on the right age of marriage, adolescent nutrition, food fortification, micronutrients, supplements, and prevention of anemia were also conducted, alongside awareness on kitchen gardening and yoga for health. Community-based education (CBE) initiatives further strengthened outreach at the grassroots level.

Additionally, home visits were conducted in all 450 AWCs to track institutional deliveries and register new pregnant women, ensuring timely and appropriate maternal care.

These combined efforts highlight the Chandigarh Administration’s commitment to improving maternal and child health, promoting nutrition, and raising awareness for a healthier and empowered community.
