Chandigarh, August 15 – On the occasion of Independence Day, Haryana’s Energy, Transport & Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij paid homage to the martyrs and reaffirmed his commitment to the vision of a Developed India. He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister, Haryana has taken unprecedented steps to strengthen the four pillars of a Developed India – “Youth, Farmers, Women and the Poor.” He added that the “double-engine” government is moving ahead with a clear roadmap to make Haryana fully developed by the year 2047.

Addressing a large gathering after hoisting the flag at the Independence Day function in Yamunanagar – which was attended by freedom fighters, their families, elders, children, and other dignitaries. Sh. Vij praised the colourful cultural programmes presented by schoolchildren, announced an incentive of Rs.10 lakh from his discretionary fund for the performers, and declared August 16 as a school holiday. He extended warm Independence Day greetings and saluted the brave soldiers guarding the nation’s borders.

He said that we are paying homage to all known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India’s unity and integrity. Whenever the enemy has challenged our sovereignty, our brave soldiers have given a befitting reply. Referring to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, he said it shook the nation’s soul, but under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev struck terrorism at its roots, sending the message loud and clear – “India will no longer remain silent.”

*‘Azadi ki Pehli Ladai ks Shaheed Smarak’ being built in Ambala Cantonment – Vij*

Sh. Vij informed that from October 2014 to June 2025, the present Haryana Government has provided government jobs on compassionate grounds to 410 dependents of martyrs. To prepare the youth for army recruitment, Armed Forces Preparatory Institutes are being set up in Charkhi Dadri, Hisar, and Yamunanagar, and a proposal has been made to set up a Military Museum in Rewari. He recalled that on May 10, 1857, the spark of freedom from Ambala ignited a nationwide movement. To preserve this proud memory, a ‘Azadi ki Pehli Ladai ks Shaheed Smarak’ is being built in Ambala Cantonment.

He said that India is now emerging not just as a cultural and military power, but also as an economic giant. Eleven years ago, our economy ranked 14th; today it is the fourth largest and on track to become the third largest soon. The revolutionary changes of the past 11 years are a result of the Prime Minister’s bold and visionary leadership. Initiatives like PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas, PM Surya Ghar, and PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana have given dignity, equality, and self-reliance to millions of Indians. Historic decisions such as the construction of the Shri Ram Lalla Temple, abolition of triple talaq, and abrogation of Articles 370 & 35A to fully integrate Jammu and Kashmir into the nation stand as symbols of India’s unity and honour.

*Successful implementation of ‘Mhara Gaon–Jagmag Gaon’ for 24-hour electricity – Vij*

Sh.Vij highlighted that improving the living standards of the poor and common people is a top priority. Under ‘Mhara Gaon–Jagmag Gaon,’ 24-hour electricity is being provided. Initiatives like piped clean water to every household, free travel through “Happy Cards,” financial aid for workers, bonuses and compensation for farmers reflect the government’s commitment. So far, 1.8 lakh youth have received jobs through a “Bina Parchi-Bina Kharchi” process, contractual workers have received job security, and anti-drug campaigns have given new direction to lakhs of youth. To promote sports culture, indoor gyms, sports nurseries, and yoga halls are being built in villages. Haryana offers the highest prize money in the country to Olympic medal winners.

*Schemes like ‘Lado Sakhi’ and ‘Drone Didi’ have made over 2 lakh women self-reliant – Vij*

He said that procurement of all crops at MSP, abolition of “abiyana” charges, granting ownership rights to long-term leaseholders of “shamlat” land, payment of Rs. 15,465 crore in crop compensation, and Rs. 7,000 crore direct benefit through PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi stand as proof of the respect given to farmers. Schemes like ‘Lado Sakhi’ and ‘Drone Didi’ have empowered over 2 lakh women. One-third of ration depots, Atal Kisan Mazdoor canteens, and Vita outlets have been allotted to women, and 131 women’s cultural centres have been opened. Under the subsidised gas scheme, poor women receive LPG cylinders for Rs. 500, benefiting lakhs of households. Women’s participation in local governance has been ensured through 50% reservation in panchayats.

*Reservation restructured among Scheduled Castes to give rights to the deprived – Vij*

He said that the government has restructured reservation within Scheduled Castes to benefit the most deprived sections and increased the OBC creamy layer limit from ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh. For poor families, the “Happy Card” scheme offers 1,000 km of free travel in state buses annually, while the Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana provides assistance up to Rs. 71,000 for daughters’ marriages. Under PM Awas Yojana, 1.47 lakh houses have been provided, while the CM Awas Yojana has allotted 15,256 plots in 14 cities and 3,884 plots in 58 villages. Ayushman Bharat–Chirayu Yojana offers free medical treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh to 22 lakh beneficiaries, and free dialysis has been started for kidney patients in all government hospitals and medical colleges.

*Ownership rights granted under the ‘Swamitva Yojana’ for shops and houses occupied for over 20 years – Vij*

The Energy Minister said that to promote investment and employment, the government has removed obstructive regulations, put over 150 services online, and ensured all approvals within 12 days. Ten new IMTs are being set up in the state, including the country’s largest Maruti Suzuki plant in Kharkhoda, which will generate thousands of jobs for youth. Under the CM Shahri Swamitva Yojana, ownership rights have been given to people occupying shops and houses for over 20 years. The PM Laghu Vyapari Mandhan Yojana provides a minimum monthly pension to small retailers.


*Ambala Cantonment Airport almost ready, flights to start soon – Vij*

He added that over 2 crore saplings have been planted under Van Mahotsav and “Ek Ped Maan ke Naam” campaign. Solid and liquid waste management projects, 2,088 Amrit Sarovars, and groundwater recharge works have been undertaken in villages. Faridabad and Karnal are being developed as Smart Cities, while 450 buses have been sanctioned for 7 cities under PM E-Bus Service. Hisar’s Maharaja Agrasen Airport has become Haryana’s largest airport and a hub for industrial and economic growth, with direct flights recently started to Ayodhya for Shri Ram Lalla darshan. Similarly, the upcoming Ambala Cantonment Airport is almost complete, and flight operations will commence soon.

Sh.Vij urged all present to take a pledge to protect the nation’s dignity, integrity, and freedom in every challenge, and to lay the foundation for a strong, self-reliant, globally leading India for future generations – as this will be the truest tribute to our martyrs. Earlier, Sh. Vij visited the Shaheed Smarak in Jagadhri Police Lines to offer floral tributes. At the Yamunanagar Independence Day event, he inspected the parade, took the salute of the march past, and personally honoured freedom fighters and families of martyrs. Officials, employees, and schoolchildren who contributed to the celebrations were also felicitated.
