Chandigarh,31.07.25- The Postgraduate Department of Hindi at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women,organised a literary event to commemorate the birth anniversary of Munshi Premchand, one of the most revered figures in Hindi literature.
As part of the celebrations, students presented insightful reflections on Premchand’s life and literary legacy, engaging with themes such as realism, social awareness, gender sensitivity, and Dalit discourse in his works. They emphasised the continued relevance of Premchand’s writings in contemporary society, underscoring how his narratives still resonate with present-day social dynamics. A book exhibition was also curated on the occasion, showcasing some of Premchand’s most celebrated works including Godaan, Gaban, Karmabhoomi, Manasarovar, and Namak Ka Daroga. The exhibition served as an enriching resource, fostering greater literary awareness among students. The highlight of the event was the screening of 'Sadgati', a powerful cinematic adaptation of one of Premchand’s short stories, directed by the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. The film offered a compelling portrayal of Premchand’s nuanced social vision and deep empathy for marginalised communities, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
Commending the efforts of the Hindi Department, Officiating Principal Dr. Neena Sharma noted that such events not only deepen students’ literary understanding but also acquaint them with the values, struggles, and social commitment of our great literary figures.
