CHANDIGARH-16-06-2025-The Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER Chandigarh in collaboration with Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (TCT), PGIMER Chandigarh celebrated World Blood Donor Day by organizing Mega Blood Donation Camp at Blood Donation Center PGIMER, Chandigarh. This Blood Donation Camp was also significant as the availability of blood decreases in summer months due to fewer number of blood donation events. It was 314th Blood Donation Camp by TCT.
The Department of Transfusion Medicine PGIMER observes World Blood Donor Day every year to spread awareness of Voluntary Blood Donation and Thalassaemia. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust made elaborate arrangements for the blood donors and setup a desk dedicated to thalassaemia awareness.
Prof(Dr) RK Ratho, Dean Academic PGIMER Chandigarh, Chief Guest was received by Prof(Dr) Ratti Ram Sharma, HOD, Deptt. of Transfusion Medicine for the inauguration of the Blood Donation Camp. A cake was cut by the thalassaemic patients in honour of volunteer blood donors. Prof(Dr) Sadhna B Lal, Head, Department of Paediatrics Gastroenterology and Hepatology; Prof(Dr) Ashish Jain; Dr. Divjot Singh Lambha, Asstt Professor; Dr. Anubhav Gupta and other Senior Faculty of PGI joined Prof(Dr) RK Ratho for blessing and honouring the blood donors by presenting Gifts, Certificate and Badges. Prof(Dr) Sadhna B Lal also donated blood during this occasion.
The success of this camp is dedicated to Hon’ble 221 voluntary blood donors registered for blood donation and the entire team of Department of Transfusion Medicine PGI and members of Thalassaemic Charitable Trust.
Prof(Dr) RR Sharma and Shri Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary of the Trust thanked the blood donors and praised the entire team of Department of Transfusion Medicine and TCT PGIMER. They emphasized the need for voluntary blood donation to save precious lives needing blood support.
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day 14th June 2025, the Department of Transfusion Medicine GMCH, Sector 32 Chandigarh Honoured TCT for supporting voluntary blood donation and running a daycare centre for thalassaemic patients.
The function was organised by Department of Transfusion Medicine, GMCH-32 and was presided by Prof(Dr) AK Attri, Director Principal along with Prof(Dr) Ravneet Kaur; Medical Superintendent and Deputy Director GMCH.
