Ludhiana 17 August 2022-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) flagged of its first batch of 20 undergraduate (B.F.Sc.) students of College of Fisheries (COF), for 2 weeks International training in International Centre of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation (ICE-SSI), Faculty of Agro-Industry at Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hat Yai, Thailand. The training was sponsored under Institutional Development Plan (IDP) – National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) of ICAR to augment professional competency of UG students through capacity building in national and international institutes of globally acclaimed academic excellence. Dr. Prabjeet Singh, Assistant Professor (Fisheries), played an instrumental role in earning this prestigious international training opportunity for the B.F.Sc. students. He also earned a 2-weeks capacity building exposure visit for himself to ICE-SSI, PSU-Thailand, fully sponsored by the host institute, and is accompanying the students as ‘Tour Coordinator’.

Eligible B.F.Sc. students of COF competed for this opportunity to undertake practical training at ICE-SSI, PSU, Thailand in respect to advanced innovations for seafood processing and value addition to enhance shelf life and safety of fisheries products, informed Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean, COF, . Working in the lab of a renowned scientist of international repute, Professor Dr. Soottawat Benjakul, Director, ICE-SSI, PSU (Thailand), having more than 38,000 citation and h-index of 96, is a priceless learning opportunity for the student at this point of their professional careers, she added.

Dr. S.P.S. Ghuman, Dean, College of Veterinary Science and Principle Investigator IDP-NAHEP, said that ICAR support in uplifting professional skills of UG students under IDP of NAHEP, is transforming professional perspectives of young veterinary, dairy and fisheries professionals, which will make significant contributions in sustainable development of livestock and fisheries sectors of the country.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, expressed that it is very important to equip our young professionals with advanced knowledge and skills to boost their confidence and address the emerging challenges in respect to food security and safety more effectively. International academic and research linkages developed under IDP-NAHEP of ICAR will eventually serve as a catalyst to earn productive international collaborative projects benefiting the livestock and fisheries sectors, he added.
