Chandigarh,06.07.20-Born on 15th November, 1963, the academic qualifications of Professor Deepak Kapur include Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with Honours from the Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, a doctoral degree in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and a Diploma in Entrepreneurship Administration & Business Laws from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences , Kolkata.

Prior to the recently completed assignment of Chairperson/Head of Department of University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh on 30.06.2020(AN); Professor Deepak Kapur had earlier worked as Director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, Dean-Faculty of Business Management & Commerce, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Chairperson-Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Equivalent to MBA) at the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, Chairperson-Economic, Environment and Strategy Area of Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad. Professor Deepak Kapur had also earlier worked in the industry as Engineer/Senior Engineer in a Central Government owned Semiconductor VLSI device manufacturing organisation.

The highlights of the activities undertaken during the three year term of Professor Deepak Kapur as Chairperson/Head of Department of University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh are summarised as under:-

a) The infrastructure of the University Business School was strengthened by arranging funding from the UBS Alumni, and consequently all classrooms were air-conditioned, a new Seminar Room – C was refurbished with Godrej furniture etc, the furniture of one other classroom was entirely refurbished, repair/up gradation of the UBS Auditorium was undertaken, one room illegally occupied by one vendor on the ground floor of Arts Block-III for last several years was got vacated, a washroom in the Annexe Building of UBS was upgraded/refurnished, new projector screens were got installed in the classrooms etc.

b) Five International Conferences were organised at the University Business School in different contemporary areas of Management.

c) Golden Jubilee celebrations of the commencement of MBA program at UBS along with the Alumni Meet was held in the year 2018, and the first departmental convocation of UBS was also organised separately from the University convocation.

d) The final placement statistics of the UBS saw a distinct improvement during the three year tenure of Professor Deepak Kapur as Chairperson-UBS from 2017 to 2020. There was a marked improvement in the highest package, the average package and the median salary package offered at UBS, with the UBS students getting a highest salary package of Rs 46 Lakhs per annum in 2017-2018, a highest salary package of Rs 53 Lakh per annum in 2018-2019, and a highest salary package of Rs 55 Lakh per annum in 2019-2020. The quality of summer placement assignments and the amount of stipends offered to UBS students also saw a distinct improvement.

  • Different thrust areas of interdisciplinary research were identified and consequently focus groups for undertaking research were got approved in the areas of Data analytics, Knowledge management, Innovative financial solutions, Entrepreneurship and small business, Corporate governance, Business and economic policy, Strategic competency mapping for talent management and retention, Business laws etc.
  • The UBS began to again participate in the B-School rankings after a gap of several years. During the year 2020, UBS has been ranked 18 in Outlook-ICARE India MBA Rankings 2020: Top Public MBA Institutions; and at Rank 42 in NIRF Rankings 2020 for the discipline of Management.
  • With effect from Batch 2019-2021, all the post graduate programs offered at the University Business School have been brought under the Honours School System at the Panjab University, Chandigarh on the pattern of the science departments. The syllabus of different academic programs offered at UBS was accordingly revised and upgraded, and new subjects like digital marketing & data analytics were introduced along with the introduction of a mandatory Research Project. The syllabus of undergraduate courses offered in affiliated colleges of Panjab University were also got upgraded.
  • A new course of MBA (Entrepreneurship) was commenced at the University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh wef the academic session 2019-2020.
  • The Syllabus of the PhD program offered at University Business School in the specialization of Strategic Management was completely revised and upgraded, as per the last trends in India and abroad.
  • The University Business School has also began to offer the facility of PhD course work to the students of other departments/centers’/Institutes/affiliated colleges of Panjab University covered under the Faculty of Business Management & Commerce of Panjab University, Chandigarh.
  • The University Business School successfully conducted in November 2019 the examinations and declared the result in January 2020 of the different post graduate programs under the Honours School System introduced wef the Batch 2019-2021 through the UBS Examination Committee constituted thereof under the duly approved regulations by the PU Administration.

A small get together was organised on 30.06.2020 at 4.30 PM in the Seminar Room-B of the University Business School wherein the distinguished gathering comprising of the Members of the Syndicate/Senate/Faculty/Staff and students highlighted and summarised the salient activities undertaken during the three year tenure of Professor Deepak Kapur as Chairperson/Head of Department of University Business School [June 30(AN), 2017 to June 30(AN), 2020] at Panjab University, Chandigarh. The distinguished gathering included Professor Navdeep Goyal, Professor Keshav Malhotra, Ms. Anu Chatrath, Professor Rajat Sandhir and others. Earlier, the Non-Teaching staff of UBS had organised a small party at 11 AM on 30.06.2020 upon the successful completion of the three year tenure of Professor Deepak Kapur as Chairperson-University Business School, and to wish him for his future assignments.
