PU BoF Meeting
Panjab University(PU), Chandigarh in its Board of Finance(BoF) approved the
recommendations of the committee regarding air travel for official purposes and LTC.
The approval includes (i) The air travel through Air India shall be compulsory in only
those cases where the reimbursement of travel expenditure is to be made out of Central
Government funds. In other cases, the travel by private airlines (Economy class) shall
be permitted. However, the condition regarding booking of Air Tickets either through
the website/booking counter of concerned Airline or by the Government approved agencies
i.e. M/s Balmer & Lawrie, Ashoka Tour & Travels and IRCTC shall continue to be
applicable. No reimbursement of Air Ticket shall be allowed if ticket is booked through
any private agency/unauthorized travel agent. (ii) In case of LTC, the air travel
through private airline (Cheapest economy class) shall be permitted subject to the
condition that the reimbursement of air fare shall be limited upto an amount equivalent to Air India economy(S/T Air Fare) classes.
The BoF deliberated on the issue of dismantling the existing 2nd floor of the
building of Regional Centre, Kauni, the members resolved to immediately write to Punjab Government highlighting various hazards associated with the dilapidated condition of the existing building of Regional Centre, Kauni.
The BoF discussed the letter received from Punjab Government regarding
Secretariat Pay to University Employees which clearly states that the said pay be
discontinued with immediate effect. However, the members opined to take up the issue
with Punjab Government again for reconsideration, since, this is being implemented in
PU for over 50 years.
The BoF approved the budget of Rs. 8,40,200/- for the construction of washroom
for staff room and language lab of Department of English & Cultural Studies, Rs.
7,78,400/- for provision of toilets with wards of Department of Oral Surgery (Ground
Floor) of Dr. HSJ Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital in PU South Campus, Rs.
23,53,000/- for 13 passenger lift (Gearless with machine room), UIET Block II in PU
Campus, Rs. 10,90,000/- for setting up library reading hall at UIAMS and Rs.
20,83,000/- for extension of pantry/toilets/driver room/projection of main guest house
(GF) in PU Campus, Sector-14, Chandigarh.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, PU and other
present in the meeting included Sh. J.S.Singh, Deputy Secretary, Finance, Sh. Harish,
Special Secretary, Finance, UT, Sh. S.L.Bansal, Deputy Secretary, Finance, Government
of Punjab, Dr. Surinder Pal, Government College, Mohali, Prof. Shankarji Jha, Dean of
University Instruction, Dr. Dalip Kumar, Associate Professor, Post Graduate Govt.
College for Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh, Prof. Keshav Malhotra, Department of Evening
Studies-MDRC, Sh. Ashok Goyal, PU Fellow, Prof. Navdeep Goyal, Department of Physics,
Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Registrar and Sh. Vikram Nayyar, Finance & Development Officer.
PU VC requested the representatives of the UT to support PU with respect to the
maintenance, upliftment and development of the PU Campus and also to release timely
grants to PU. The Punjab Government representatives were also requested to release the
grant due to PU with respect to post matric scholarships and other grants for PU
especially for development purposes.

The Senate Election of the Panjab University of Registered Graduate Constituency will
be held on 20.09.2020. In this Election, the existing voters and new voters can cast
their votes. Fifteen (15) members are to be elected from this Constituency.
1. The following classes of graduates of the Panjab University shall be eligible
for enrolment provided that they are domiciled in India:
a) Those who have taken a Doctorate degree or Master’s degree, in any Faculty of
the University;
b) Those who have graduated, not less than 5 years before registration, in any
Faculty of the Panjab University, Chandigarh; or from the University of the Panjab,
Lahore. For this purpose, the period of 5 years shall be counted from the year in which
a person passed the degree examination concerned.
Illustration:- A Person was declared to have passed the B.A. examination in 2015 or
before, he will be eligible for enrolment in 2020.
c) The voter shall also indicate the year and Roll No. of passing the
Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examination along with the name of University/Board from
where he has passed the said examination
Those who fulfill the above condition/s can deposit the application form upto
24.02.2020, obtainable from the P.U website (
) with cost of Rs. 1/- (application form) and fee of Rs. 15/-

(life membership) (Total Rs. 16/-) along with self attested Photo Residence proof and
one latest passport size photograph.

3. Existing voter: A voter, whose name already exists in the voter list used for
election in 2016, need not send the above documents to revalidate his/her name.
However, to be eligible to vote in the Election Scheduled in Sept. 2020, a photo ID
with address such as Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, valid Passport, Driving License, Senior
Citizen Card, Bank Passbook is a must at the time of voting for all the voters
4. Change of Address: If any voter wants to get the address changed, he/she can
download the same form P.U. website and deposit the same upto 23.04.2020 in the
election Cell, P.U. Chandigarh. No fee is required to be deposited with Change of
Address form.

Sweaters and Socks distributed to workers in GH-6, PU

For the welfare of the workers, sweaters alongwith socks were distributed among the
workers of Mess and Canteen of Women Hostel No. 6 by Prof. Emanual Nahar, Dean Student
Welfare; Prof. Neena Caplash, Dean Student Welfare (W) and Dr. Namita Gupta, Warden of
the Hostel. Prof. Neena Caplash advised the workers to wear the sweater and be careful
about their health due to prevailing winter season. Prof. Nahar wished the workers a
very happy year ahead and advised them to maintain hygiene in the mess & canteen.
