Chandigarh,14.10.19-Out of the six surgeons elected as Fellows by the National Academy of Medical Sciences this year, Dr. Sandeep Bansal, Additional Professor, Department of Otolaryngology has been selected from PGIMER, Chandigarh. The award of FNAMS was given to Dr. Sandeep Bansal in a function held at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal.

Dr. Bansal has been an active contributor in the field of Rhinology and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. He has been a governing body member of All India Rhinology Society of India. He has been organizing many cadaveric dissection courses for endoscopic sinus surgery and has been an operating faculty at many international and national forums. He has been offering dedicated service in the field of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). He has undergone training in the management of OSA at various centers, including Mayo Clinic, Rochster, Minnesota (USA) Singapore General Hospital (Singapore), and more recently, at the Technical University Hospital, Munich (Germany) to advance and expand his knowledge in OSA. It was his efforts that the Department could start the Sleep Laboratory in the PGIMER, Chandigarh. This Sleep Laboratory is one of the first of its kind to have started in the Department of Otolaryngology and Head Neck Surgery in North India. Dr. Bansal has published more than 60 papers in peer reviewed journals. He has delivered guest lectures at various national and international forums. He is on the editorial board of “Clinical Rhinology” World Journal of Paediatrics” and “Journal of Postgraduate Medicine” and is a reviewer for many international and national indexed journals. He has significant contributions to the community services in the form of organizing blood donation camps, and has participated in several health aid camps for the poor and downtrodden strata of the Society.

Dr. Nidhi Bhatia, Additional Professor, Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care; Dr. Ankur Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Cardiology and Dr. Parul Chawla, Assistant Professor, Department of Opthalmology from PGIMER have been elected as members of National Academy of Medical Sciences.
