Ludhiana 20 September, 2019-Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana will organize three days Regional Agriculture & Pashu Palan Mela on Sep. 21, 22 and 23.

While briefing about mela, Dr. AS Nanda Vice Chancellor GADVASU said that Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India through its Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare has allocated Northern region mela to GADVASU, Ludhiana. This fair will attract farmers, universities, institutions, private firms, Line and development Departments and other stakeholders from northern states Union Territories of J & K, Ladakh and Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, U.P., UttraKhand, Bihar and Rajasthan. During the fair, State Agriculture and Veterinary universities, ICAR institutes of North India, will put up exhibition & share all their technologies. He said that we are promoting scientific and planned livestock rearing , so our mela slogan is also based on this objective 'Suchaja Pashu Palan Apnao, Sehatmand ate Khushaal Samaj Banano' means 'Prosperity and Health Through Better Livestock Production'.

Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU said that as this is Regional Agriculture & Pashu Palan Mela, the institute from north India especially agriculture related organizations will showcase there technologies, knowledge through exhibition and their experts/scientists will also interact with visiting farmers to adopt the best practices which have yielded fruit full results at their respective places. However they will also like to learn from fellow scientists and to get the inputs or problems from the farmers for their future research.

In the Mela the varsity’s elite animals will be exhibited to motivate farmers to breed superior livestock by getting the improved germplasm from the University. Books on Dairy Farming, Pig Farming, Goat Farming and Package of Practices for Animal Husbandry and GADVASU Magazine ‘Vigyanak Pashu Palan’ will also be available to the farmers. Two books on the subject 'Artificial Insemination, and 'Fish Farming' will be released in the mela for farmers.

Dr Verma said that Mineral mixture, Uromin lick, Bye pass fat prepared by the university will also be sold at nominal rates. Hoof trimming, teat dip practice, acaricide drug applications, urea treatment of wheat straw, preparation of uromin lick, Bypass fat, and silage will be demonstrated at mela. Milk and meat processing technologies for value addition will also be discussed. The livestock farmers will be provided testing facilities for nitrate poisoning of fodders, mastitis testing, testing of faeces, mucous, milk and feed samples. Farmers can bring the samples of blood, faeces, urine and skin scrappings for getting them tested for various diseases. The testing facility will be free during Mela days. Brucellosis testing in animals as well as human beings will also be done. A milk testing kit will also be on sale for checking five common adulterants like sugar, starch, urea, neutralizer and hydrogen peroxide. University recommendations in the form of live lectures, question answer sessions will also be separately arranged for the farmers on all the days.
