Van Mahotsav-2019 in a befitting manner as ‘Eco Club Day’

CHANDIGARH,18.07.19-To observe Van Mahotsav-2019 in a befitting manner by involving various Greening agencies like NGOs, Resident Welfare Associations, Eco-Clubs besides Government agencies, Department of Forests & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration organized ‘Eco Club Day’ today on 18th July, 2019, during which various schools planted saplings within their school premises. The ceremonial function organized by department was held at Govt. Girls Model Sr.Sec. School, Sector 18, Chandigarh in which Sh.Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests & Director Environment, UT Chandigarh was the Chief Guest.

On this occasion, Chief Guest planted the sapling of ‘Stevia’ and Dr.Abdul Qayum, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests also planted a sapling of ‘Ashwagandha’ at school premises. Other school staff and Principal of the School also planted a sapling in the school premises. Other staff of Forest & Environment Department were also present on the occasion.

Chief Guest urged the students that each one of you to plant at least one tree every year in the monsoon season and to take active part in plantation in open areas and make Chandigarh city clean & green. He further urged the students to be the Ambassador of spreading awareness in their neighbourhood to plant and nurture trees.

The overall objective of celebrating the ‘Eco Club Day’ is to sensitize the school children to generate awareness for protection and conservation of flora & fauna and to increase the green cover of the Chandigarh.


Unique initiative was started by the Dept. of Forest & Wildlife titled “वन विभाग आपके द्वार (Forest Department at your Door Steps).

Chandigarh,18th July, 2019-Today, one unique initiative was started by the Dept. of Forest & Wildlife titled “वन विभाग आपके द्वार (Forest Department at your Door Steps). This scheme of free distribution of plants/saplings to general public without any formal application, thereby easing the governance in forest. A Vehicle was designed for free distribution of saplings & it was launched by the Chief Conservator of Forests(CCF) - Shri Debendra Dalai, IFS in the presence of officials of Department and general public. The CCF said that the recent initiative will greatly help nature lovers and they can become major part of afforestation activities in effective manner. Department has also ordered all the Forest Nursery Incharges to supply plant to the public directly when the number is less than 10 and has reduced lot of hurdles in procuring plants.

On the occasion Deputy Conservator of Forests - Dr. Abdul Qayum, IFS said that the idea is to assist interested public in plantation activity by providing them tree saplings of their choice at their door steps. The vehicle will run for 14 days starting from 18th July, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and it will reach every possible corner of city beautiful. People are also encouraged to take Selfie with these saplings and to make it part of Jan Andolan (People’s Movement). The free distribution scheme has around 24 different types of species including Medicinal Plants such as Aloe vera, Giloe, Tulsi, Neem, Ajwain etc. all to be distributed free of cost. The department strongly advocates that Human Life can be made prosperous only, if trees are protected and mother earth will protect as if it is protected.
