Chandigarh, May 25:- Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary Home, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated the renovated toilet blocks and hand wash stations at the cremation ground, sector 25, here today in presence of Sh. K.K. Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, MCC, former world president of Rotary International Sh. R.K. Saboo, Sh. N.P. Sharma, S.E. (PH), Sh. Sanjay Arora, S.E. (B&R), other senior officers of MCC and members of Rotary Club of Chandigarh.

While elaborating about the project, MC Commissioner said that the work includes 2 toilet blocks, one for gents and one for ladies, each toilet block has 3 water closets and 1 for disabled persons. There are 12 no. of Urinals, 6 no. of bathrooms and 36 No. of hand wash stations.

Chandigarh Rotary Club Service Trust had initiated this project in July, 2018 at a cost of Rs.40 lakh in partnership with the Saboo Business Group, Rtn. Jagesh Khaitan, and M/s IPF Vikram India Ltd, and an MoU was signed in July 2018 with the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation for redesigning and reconstructing the public convenience for the visitors to the cremation ground under PPP mode. Under the memorandum of understanding the renovated toilets shall be maintained by the partners for next five years.

Rtn R.K. Saboo, who had initiated this project, commended the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh for completing the project very efficiently and within the given time, giving Rotary another opportunity to be a part of another meaningful project.

Rotary had also undertaken beautification of the cremation ground and had repaired and refurbished the electric crematorium earlier in 2005, Mr Saboo added.

President Rtn AP Singh said that Rotary Club Chandigarh, a unit of Chandigarh Rotary Club Service Trust, has always been in the forefront of service to the community over the last 61 years and this project is among a variety of other projects undertaken by the Club for the benefit of the society at large.
