Chandigarh, 25.08.21- Thalassaemic Charitable Trust (Regd.), Chandigarh organised its 226th Blood Donation Camp at PGIMER, Chandigarh to promote brotherhood and love by donating blood. The camp was conducted under strict COVID19 guidelines and restrictions.

Total 38 units of blood were collected from voluntary blood donors in this camp. The coming Blood Donation Camps by Trust will be organized on 28th August and 4th September 2021. Rajinder Kalra, Member Secretary requests all voluntary blood donors and groups to participate in these camps.

This Trust has already organised 42 Blood donation camps since 6th June 2020 during the COVID19 lockdown period to help Blood Bank of PGIMER, Chandigarh to provide blood to Thalassaemics and other serious patients requiring blood support. More than 4290 units of blood were collected in these camps till date.

The Member Secretary expressed deep gratitude to the Head of Department and staff of Blood Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER and all voluntary blood donors for their cooperation.

Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder that induces chronic anaemia. Regular Blood transfusion after 15-20 days is a widely recommended treatment for maintaining optimal Haemoglobin levels. Thalassaemic Charitable Trust has been organising blood donation camps and serving thalassaemiacs since 1985. Presently about 450 Thalassaemics are availing blood transfusion facilities in our two Day Care Centres in PGIMER & GMCH Chandigarh. Free medicines are also provided to poor patients by the Trust.
