CHANDIGARH,19.10.20-The NSS units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women celebrated World Food Day with great enthusiasm. Seeking to spread awareness about food security and to express solidarity with the vulnerable, the NSS volunteers made posters depicting the need to promote healthy food and sustainable food habits. The volunteers also distributed food items to the needy in their respective neighbourhoods. In another online activity, the Department of Food Science organised ’Food Businesses: Modeling the Role Models’.

Dr. Ashish Kumar Singh, Principal Scientist, Food Science and Technology, and ICC Business Planning and Development Unit, Dairy Technology Division, ICAR- NDRI, Karnal graced the event as the Chief Guest. The underlying objective of the activity was to give students an opportunity to thoroughly research, learn and understand the course of action of food businesses over a period of time in order to attain a deeper insight of the industry and hone their execution skills. A total of 30 students gave presentations wherein they depicted themselves as the owner of the food business of their choice and shared information regarding how they started it, challenges faced, ups and downs, current course of action, future planning, etc. The winners were awarded cash prizes.

Principal Dr. Nisha Bhargava asserted that the pandemic has drawn attention to the issue of access to safe and nutritious food, and thus this year's World Food Day becomes all the more contextual. She added that this occasion should be utilised to raise awareness about the need to have a robust food system that provides healthy and sustainable diets for everyone.
