Chandigarh, December 4 - Taking cognizance of the recent rape and murder in Hyderabad, Haryana Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Mrs. Kamlesh Dhanda, has directed the department officials to spread awareness about the steps being taken by the State Government for the safety of women and children in the State. Besides, special emphasis should also be given on sensitisating and imparting moral education to boys.

The Minister further directed that women should be sensitized about the steps being taken for their security.

Mrs. Dhanda gave these directions in a meeting convened here today to review the various schemes being run by the department for the safety of women and children. She said that along with women, privacy, dignity, physical and emotional development of children is also very important and extensive efforts should be made in this direction.

Referring to the rape and murder at Hyderabad, she said that such heinous crimes should be strongly condemned and people should also come forward to help in preventing such incidents. She said that in schools and colleges, surprise visits should be made by the police to prevent such incidents.

In the meeting, the Minister of State was informed that the One-Stop Center-Sakhi established in all the districts are running smoothly and in this center, women who have faced violence are provided police assistance, medical assistance, psychological counseling, under one roof. Apart from this in these centers, legal assistance and temporary stay are also provided. Psychological, social counselors, legal advisors and paramedical personnel have been appointed in these centers. In addition, one woman police center is established in each district, for which 30 women police teams and 50 Durga Vahini vehicles have been provided. A Durga Shakti app has also been launched for women safety.

It was informed that financial assistance of Rs 22 thousand for the provision of private lawyer for rape victims is being provided in the State. Apart from this, it has also been decided to complete the investigation of rape cases within a certain time and to open one fast track court in the districts with more than 50 pending cases in the courts of rape, molestation and mental harassment of women.

It was informed that a scheme for Relief and Rehabilitation has been implemented to provide relief or medical reimbursement and rehabilitation services to acid-affected girls and women.

An amount of Rs one lakh is paid to the acid victim within 15 days of such an incident, in which Rs 25,000 is provided as immediate Adhoc relief to the acid victim by the concerned Deputy Commissioner and Rs 75,000 within 15 days by the Department of Women and Child Development. The amount is given so that the victim can be provided with the facility of medical treatment and expenses.

Apart from this, the person suffering from the acid attack in the State is entitled to receive 100 percent free medical treatment from government or government-approved hospitals. The treatment includes medicines, food, bedding, plastic or reconstructive surgery. The amount is reimbursed by the Women and Child Development Department.

Mrs. Dhanda directed the officers of the department to work with complete devotion and dedication and ensure smooth running of State Government schemes for the welfare and equal development of women and children in the State.
