Parvinder Singh Jhota Murder Case: Kewal Dhillon Calls for Statewide Protest Against AAP Government Through Black Turbans

Reiterates demand for a CBI probe, says there is little hope of justice from the Punjab government; meets Jhota’s family to offer condolences

AAP government has failed to curb drugs, and those speaking out against the menace are being silenced: Dhillon

Mansa/Chandigarh, October 17:Punjab BJP state president Kewal Singh Dhillon visited the ongoing protest in Mansa, where people are demanding justice in the Parvinder Singh Jhota murder case. He reiterated the demand for a CBI investigation and appealed to the people of Punjab to wear black turbans to register their protest against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. During the visit, he also met Parvinder Singh’s parents, Bhim Singh and his wife, and expressed his condolences.

*Call for Protest Through Black Turbans, Dupattas and Flags
Addressing the gathering, Dhillon said that Parvinder Singh Jhota, who had raised his voice against drugs, was a warrior who fought to protect Punjab’s youth from addiction. He said Jhota had waged a determined battle to save the younger generation from drugs and that his sacrifice would always be remembered.

Dhillon appealed to the people of Punjab to protest against the AAP government by wearing black turbans and black dupattas and carrying black flags until justice is delivered in the Jhota murder case. The appeal was welcomed by Parvinder Singh’s father and those participating in the protest, amid loud slogans.

*‘AAP Has Ruined Punjab’
Dhillon alleged that the AAP government had failed Punjab in tackling the drug menace. He said the party had promised to eradicate drugs within three months of coming to power, yet the drug trade continued to flourish across the state. Instead of curbing the menace, he alleged, those raising their voices against drugs were being silenced.

He said the issue extended beyond the Jhota case. Referring to Gulzar Singh of Toor Vanjara, he alleged that Singh had been driven to suicide after speaking out against drugs. He also cited the murders of singer Sidhu Moosewala and kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambian, claiming that their families were still awaiting justice.

Dhillon said he had little hope that the Punjab government would deliver justice in the Jhota case. He added that he had written to the Punjab Governor on the very first day, demanding a CBI probe.

*Centre Has Taken Serious Note, Says Dhillon
Dhillon said the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had taken serious note of the matter. According to him, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had sought explanations from the Punjab government in three cases, including the Jhota murder case.
He assured the family that the BJP would stand by them at every stage of their fight for justice.

NIA and ED should investigate drug operations run from prisons and assets seized from drug inspector: Sunil Jakhar

* Sunil Jakhar writes to the Union Home Minister
* Says the Mann government gave an important posting to a drug inspector arrested in a drug-related case
* Says an investigation will reveal whose “cash cow” the drug inspector is

Chandigarh, October 17-Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking investigations by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into drug operations being run from prisons and by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the black money linked to this trade.

Referring to the murder of Parminder Singh Jhota in Mansa, he said that when a drug inspector who had served in the same district was arrested two years ago, the DGP had claimed that he was the kingpin of a gang operating from prison and that substantial assets belonging to him had been uncovered.

In his letter, Jakhar stated that in 2024, the Punjab Police arrested a drug inspector who had served in Mansa and uncovered assets worth crores of rupees. These included ₹7.09 crore in 24 bank accounts, two bank lockers, ₹1.49 crore in cash, 260 grams of gold, foreign currency and immovable property worth ₹2.40 crore. Punjab’s police chief had himself stated that the drug inspector was acting as the kingpin of a gang linked to imprisoned drug traffickers and was facilitating the sale of drugs.

Jakhar further wrote that the case had revealed a drug trafficking network operating from prisons, links to cross-border drug trafficking, and movable and immovable assets worth crores of rupees, warranting a money laundering investigation. Despite this, the Punjab government neither sought an NIA investigation nor referred the case to the ED, even though it involved potential money laundering.

Instead, after the drug inspector was granted bail, the Aam Aadmi Party government not only reinstated him but also appointed him to an important position at his department’s headquarters. Given the network operating from prisons and the substantial money and property uncovered, the case should also have been referred to the NIA and ED for investigation, he said.

Jakhar said the Punjab government itself acknowledges that the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs is currently a major problem. Seeking an NIA and ED investigation into the case involving drug inspector Seesam Kumar, he said that only an investigation could identify the individuals behind the gang.

He further alleged that, despite his arrest in a drug-related case, the inspector had become a source of illicit income for the Aam Aadmi Party government. He said the investigation should also establish at whose behest the inspector had been given an important posting. He called for action against what he described as a drug trade operating from prisons under government patronage, and for the exposure of the money laundering linked to it.
