Chandigarh, October 8: Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij today launched a sharp attack on the Gandhi family and the Congress, stating that “what greater example of democracy can there be than the Gandhi family, which once stood at the pinnacle, has today fallen to the ground because of its wrong thinking, wrong policies and wrong actions.”
Taking a jibe at the Congress leadership, Vij said, “There was a time when people would spend their entire lives trying to reach this family, but today, its grandchildren are lying on the streets. There can be no greater example of democracy than this.”
Sh. Vij was responding to questions from media persons.
Reacting to questions regarding the continuation of the Congress protest in Delhi, Vij questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over whether he had actually sought an appointment with the Chief Election Commissioner. “I do not know whether Rahul Gandhi has submitted any request seeking an appointment with the Chief Election Commissioner. If he has, has the Election Commission refused his request?” he asked.
Recalling his own experience of being in the Opposition, Vij said that Opposition leaders had, on several occasions, sought appointments with the Election Commission and met its officials. “They can also meet the Election Commission in the same manner,” he said.
Vij further stated that every individual has the right to seek a meeting with any public authority. However, Rahul Gandhi should clarify when he sought an appointment with the Chief Election Commissioner, when he wrote the letter and whether the Chief Election Commissioner refused to meet him. “If he was denied an appointment, then he has the right to protest. But if no letter was written and no one refused to meet him, then what is the need for this drama?” Vij asked.
He further challenged Rahul Gandhi to tell the country whether he was denied an appointment and when he had written to the Chief Election Commissioner. “Let the country know the facts. The country is asking for evidence,” Vij said.
Vij also alleged that the Opposition first arranges meals for its MPs at hotels and then takes them to the streets to stage protests. “They had meals yesterday and, I hear, they are being served meals today as well. After feeding them, they bring them to the streets. This is the kind of drama being played out across the country,” he remarked.
Vij said that not only the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, but any public official is available to the people and anyone can seek an appointment with them.

Chandigarh, October 8: Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Sh. Anil Vij today heard public grievances at the PWD Rest House in Ambala Cantt and directed the Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Civil) to constitute committees and conduct investigations into various complaints. He stated that grievances of the public must be resolved within the stipulated timeframe and that negligence at any level would not be tolerated.
Taking cognizance of a complaint regarding the alleged development of an unauthorized colony on land in Mandor village of Ambala Cantt, Sh. Vij directed the Deputy Commissioner to constitute a three-member committee under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner to investigate the matter and initiate further action based on the findings.
On a complaint from a resident of Tundla Mandi who had applied under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for assistance to construct a permanent roof over his house but had not received the benefit for nearly a year, despite neighbouring residents having received it, the Minister took serious note of the matter. He directed the SDM, Ambala Cantt, to investigate the case, take action against those found responsible and initiate suspension proceedings if negligence was established.
Sh. Vij also ordered an inquiry into a complaint concerning the purchase of a suction and jetting machine by the Municipal Council for cleaning drains and sewerage systems. The complainant, a municipal councillor, alleged that the machine had not been purchased in accordance with the terms and conditions of the tender. The Minister directed that an inquiry be conducted under the supervision of the SDM, Ambala Cantt, and a report submitted within one week.
Regarding outstanding property tax, Sh. Vij issued strict directions to Municipal Council officials. He said that nearly ₹70 crore in property tax was pending recovery and directed that effective steps be taken to recover the amount so that the funds could be utilised for development works in Ambala Cantt. He said that through his efforts, ₹1 crore each had been released for development in every ward, and it was now the responsibility of officials to ensure that the development works were taken up and completed expeditiously.
In a case related to an alleged illegal immigration/fraud scheme, the complainant alleged that the accused had taken ₹26.50 lakh from him but had neither returned the money nor been arrested so far. Shri Vij directed Baldev Nagar police to ensure the early arrest of the accused. Similarly, a woman from Sarsedi complained that an agent had taken ₹20 lakh through online transactions along with some cash on the assurance of sending her abroad, but neither sent her abroad nor returned the money. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Minister directed Mahesh Nagar police to take necessary action.
A retired Army Captain from Ambala Cantt complained of an alleged land fraud involving ₹52 lakh and alleged that two persons named in the case had not yet been arrested. Sh. Vij issued strict directions to the SHO, Panjokhra, for action in the matter and said, “He is a soldier who has served the country along the borders throughout his life. I will not allow his life savings to go waste.” He directed the police to take strict action and arrest the accused.
On a complaint that 56 HKRN employees at the Ambala Cantt Civil Hospital had not received their salaries for the past three months, Sh. Vij immediately spoke to Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Smt. Sumita Mishra, over the phone and directed that the employees be paid their salaries without further delay.
Sh. Vij also issued strict directions to electricity department officials regarding complaints related to power services. He said, “My name is Anil Vij. If departmental officials make people run from pillar to post, everyone knows me well. Therefore, do not make electricity consumers run from office to office and ensure that their work is completed within the stipulated timeframe.”
During the grievance hearing, complaints were received not only from Ambala Cantt but also from other districts of Haryana regarding electricity bills, dangling power wires, new electricity connections and installation of meters. The Minister directed the concerned officials to take action and submit action-taken reports within seven days.
Sh. Vij said that more than 1.96 lakh solar pumps had already been installed across Haryana under the Pradhan Mantri KUSUM Yojana and that connections would soon be released to eligible applicants. He also directed officials to complete patchwork on a section of Kardhan Road and ensure proper drainage arrangements. The concerned officials were directed to conduct a joint inspection of the site.
Issuing clear directions to officials, the Minister said, “Any work on which I have put my signature not be held up, and the person concerned should not have to come back to me again. Anil Vij’s signature is like a .303 bullet.” He reiterated that there should be no delay or negligence in taking action on public grievances.
Sh. Vij said that public grievance are organised to address the problems faced by residents of Ambala Cantt. He said that ensuring the resolution of every grievance concerning Ambala Cantt was his responsibility. Alongside these matters, complaints related to his departments were also heard on the spot, and concerned officials were directed to take necessary action. During the public grievance hearing, Sh. Vij resolved several other complaints on the spot and issued directions to the concerned officials for further necessary action.

On a question regarding the demand for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Vij said that political parties have their own way of functioning and that he had nothing further to say on the matter.
Responding to allegations by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal that the BJP was using agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to intimidate political opponents, Vij said that Opposition parties were systematically targeting the country’s democratic institutions. “Whether it is the Election Commission, the ED or the CBI, these institutions are carrying out their respective responsibilities,” he said. Taking a further dig at the Opposition, Vij said, “If you have done nothing wrong, then what are you afraid of?”
