Chandigarh | 8 October 2026-Readers’ Club and NDLI Club, College Library, GGDSD College, Chandigarh, organised “Reading Circle 3.0 – Reading & Reflection”, an initiative dedicated to encouraging students to spend meaningful time with books and develop a regular reading habit. The session provided students with an opportunity to read any book of their choice, irrespective of its genre or subject, for one hour.

The initiative was organised with the idea of creating a calm and engaging reading environment where students could dedicate time to reading beyond academic requirements. Students were encouraged to choose from a diverse range of reading materials, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, biographies, self-help books and other forms of literature that interested them.

The Reading Circle aimed to encourage students to discover the joy of reading according to their individual interests and at their own pace. The initiative sought to make reading a meaningful part of everyday life and highlighted the importance of reading not merely as an academic activity but also as a source of knowledge, reflection, personal growth and enjoyment.

The session also encouraged students to move beyond textbook-based learning and develop a deeper and sustained interest in books. By setting aside dedicated time for reading, the initiative sought to nurture the habit of engaging with literature and ideas in a relaxed and thoughtful manner.

Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal, GGDSD College, appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of creating opportunities for students to engage with books beyond academic requirements.

During the session, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Sohal, Convener, Readers’ Club, shared a short story using the example of salt, a glass of water and a lake. He explained that while salt makes a glass of water taste salty, the same salt has little effect when mixed in a lake. The story highlighted that broadening our perspective helps us face life’s problems with greater strength and calmness.
